@Imbricaria
It's no problem - I never said nobody could post, you're just the first one who had anything to say :)

Edit to say: I'm getting caught up from a serious backlog of missed generation posts here :P

Finding a mate was an ordeal, and I ended up only partially satisfied, but in the end I went with this fellow:

Wind Legacy: Special Back when I was looking for a mate for Wind generation 8, I found a nocturne that wasn't quite as good in colors but presumably was a safer breed, and then I found a better colored ridgeback but I didn't want all ridgebacks. You can see above what came of that (two nocturnes, hah). After the official generation had changed, I bred the gen 8 heir again, this time with the ridgeback, just to see what I'd get. I got one ridgebacks and two skydancers, all with basic terts. I really feel kind of ambivalent about it; I had a two-thirds chance of getting something at least nominally closer to what I wanted than the actual heiress. Here are the dragons: Parents: Oakley (the official Gen 8 heir): and Phaeton: Offspring, in order of hatching (all females): Magenta Tertiary Magenta Tertiary Pink Tertiary I've had worse-looking fodder dragons, anyway. ;)

Could you please enlighten me on what the Legacy Challenge is? It sounds really interesting.

This project is really awesome. Good luck to you, and I maybe might buy some hatchlings. Maybe.

@Crookedjaw
The Legacy Challenge is a breeding challenge where you start with a gen 1 basic dragon (usually by hatching an egg) and try to breed the most awesome and/or high scoring dragon you can in 10 generations. The official rules are here: Legacy Challenge Thread There is also a "Royal" variant, seen here: Royal Legacy Challenge Thread.

I'm playing just a little differently from someone who is simply going for highest score, in that I have a specific goal for each challenge bloodline. Technically, getting nocs in the wind bloodline is an upgrade (rarer is worth more points).

@devilry
My legacy hatchlings are usually for sale on the Royal Matchmaking Thread, which was set up for Royal Legacy Challenge participants, but you know how it is; anyone selling a dragon is delighted for anyone who will buy to do so ;) The "special" clutch above isn't qualified for Royal legacy though, so they're only shown here and on the AH. If you want one, I'm willing to negotiate price (PM me in that case).

Wind Legacy: Generation 10 So the way the numbers work out, you'd think this generation would be the final hatchlings, but actually it's the final parents - one way to think of it is that the first-gen dragons I started with were actually the "zero" generation of the legacy. That means I have one more mate to find in each line, and one more hatchling to pin my hopes on...and I am so glad, because this generation's heir still doesn't have a tertiary gene. He's does have a rose tertiary, though, so I can't complain really. (The little lady has a maize tertiary.) That means I have one more mate to find in each line, and one more hatchling to pin my hopes on...and I am SO GLAD, because this generation's heir is HIDEOUS. Seriously, I think the "violet" template was designed for plague dragons, and violet ripple just has way too much of that sick orangey tone in it. (Strong opinions about violet? Well, now that you mention it...) Adding insult to injury, the second hatchling is much, much closer to what I was hoping to get out of this breeding. Well, color-wise; we're still living with treasure-gened guardians. Even the third looks nicer than the heir though. The final mate had to wait on lair space, which was fortunately provided by the sale of the rose-winged spare! She's located next to a similar-colored male in her new lair, so I have hopes there will be a new branch of the family to see there one of these days. Edit: she had three hatchlings before she was exalted; as of this edit, two are still active! :) The lucky male is this fellow: Near-perfect colors (well the tertiary goes the wrong way, but at least it stays in the blue ranges), and I won't cry if the heir happens to pick up crystal ;) I do hope the smoke will dominate but either way, this was by far the best male to be found.

He's not quite as old as she is, but at five months he's not a new hatchling either. I think that's currently seven dragons to get out the door, including the two spare hatchlings from this generation, and I'll want to give them a chance to sell, so it'll be a little while yet on final score.
