"What do you mean we’re crashing back down to Sornieth?!" Nebula blathered, "This can’t be possible! No no no, what will become of my garden?!"
"Is that really the biggest concern right now?" Neptune asked, "I’ve protected my books for so long to keep you knuckleheads from eating them and now you’re saying all of that was for naught?"
"I wanted to get a picture of a black hole before I died at least," Gienah sighed.
"No, I mean, yes we are reentering Sornieth’s atmosphere- but but! Not all is lost! The other things probably won’t happen," Vega said, "Y’see I’ve been working with Betelgeuse to get the shields working so when we land, we’ll be safe! Probably. We just won’t be able to well… get back up into orbit, which is too bad."
There was silence within Stella Station. Vega stared at the dragons that had gathered to listen to her. She had kind of expected them to have some sort of relieved reaction to her words, maybe they'd even thank her for the work she was doing but instead, it was all just disbelief and deadpan looks! She coughed, nervously stroking her mane with all four hands and then continuing on without acknowledging her awkward pause.
"See, this is one of those times where we should be grateful that we split from the Astrolab!" Vega smiled, "It’s because we’re a smaller station that we won’t take the collision so badly!"
"I feel like you’re doing that optimism thing again," Neptune grumbled, "How good of a chance is this… ‘probably’ anyways?"
"Well- that is- I mean... Me and Betelgeuse are still in the process of repairing our shield system…?" Vega laughed, "I just came by to tell you all this was happening and that everyone needs to evacuate into the quarantine chamber. Soanywaysthat'sallbye!"
And at that, she scrambled off before the main hall could erupt in an uproar once more.
In any case, the residents of this satellite survived the crash somehow. Their "Stella Station" embedded itself right into the cliffside and stuck there. Though they've been furiously (and loudly) doing repairs for the last few days, they haven’t been able to get it to move again. I'd figured it was a futile effort but when I was invited in for a tour, I was surprised that the interior wasn't completely demolished. I had wanted to visit the library, but their librarian, a huffy spiral named Neptune, was unreasonably protective of it.
That's beside the point though. It seems they'll be staying for the foreseeable future. I suppose I’m favorable to it. After all, they have unique experiences and knowledge due to having been so close to the stars. I suspect there is much we can learn from them. I have also noticed anomalies in a few of them, but that will require further testing before I can make a proper conclusion.
