Hello hello Sorneith!

The land of bones is, quoting a lore tidbit I wrote to myself in character;
A land on the other side of Sorneith, everything is upside down and the sky is eternally black.
There are spires and ancient skeletons made of jet black stone, and rivers run a shining green. No one actually knows what exists in the land of bones, nor what the deceased do there.
[s]If you're curious look at my banescale Cadavera for a little more info[/s]
So how about you all? What myths do your dragons have? Do they believe that a certain bug brings bad luck? Do they believe that looking at their reflection in the water has a chance for a doppelganger to swim out? I wanna know!

The Land of Bones sounds very interesting! I have some afterlife concepts, but I've never actually described what they look like.
Most of my clan's Mirrors believe in an afterlife called The Long Hunt -- a forever-rich hunting grounds where they can hunt to their heart's content and never go hungry.
A smaller subset of Mirrors (known as Lost Boys), while they acknowledge the existence of The Long Hunt, do not wish to live their afterlife in its comforts. They instead wish to go to fight in a war that rages eternal in the afterlife. These dragons believe that the clan's leader, Athanasia, is an immortal paragon of War (similar to a demigoddess) and it is only through her blessing that a dragon can be granted entry into the eternal battleground.
And some assorted other bits:
- There is a creature in the Carrion Canyon known as The Beast. No one has seen it and lived to tell the tale. It often attacks dragons travelling alone. Most older dragons believe in it but the younger generations tend not to
- Gifts of branches and sticks are wishes of good luck and mean you care about a dragon because it means if you ever need to start a fire you'll have something to do it with.
- Names are super important. Names are reflective of a dragon's future/character and it's horrible luck to not have a name that reflects your future

I absolutely love that concept! Reminds me of the Egyptian belief of Aaru, and the second one about Valhalla. I also looked in your den, LOVE your mirrors and their lore!
The branches belief is also really lovely, would you mind if I used it with my dragons as well?

you made me realise I should probably work on adding myths/beliefs to my clan lore lol
putting that aside, not sure if it counts, but I did write a little thing about
facestealers (links to a post in my lore thread). i guess it would be considered a “creepypasta” in the simplest of terms? but I’m calling it a folktale soo

grabs u that is so sick?? hello??
i am a big worldbuilding neerrdd, so i certainly do have some beliefs in the development.
In my lair, my dragons believe that when they die they go to a place called
Sekpiphu, which means "the last home" in Sekke (the native language of Sekkeheh, which is where my lair is. I could go on forever). It is different for everyone that goes, as it is basically just your mind as a reality. You can do whatever you want as well. The deceased are able to travel between others' sekpiphus and go into the mortal plane to see their relatives.
As for those who have committed unforgivable acts (things such as murder and etc), they don’t have the luxury of goin to their Sekpiphu. Instead, they will go to Kyi’Reheh (dead lands). This is a barren, endless wasteland. Priests don’t say much about Kyi’Reheh as those there can’t enter the mortal plane to deliver any visions, but it is rumored that some dragons are able to leave Kyi’Reheh and live among the mortals. (cough cough
him cough cough)
And as an extra, theres a limbo/purgatory. It doesn't actually have an official name, as everyone calls it something different, but its basically just an endless field of wheat. Fun stuff.

Min's parents believed the birth of a dragon who was half-light half-water meant that tidelord was dead and Min was clearly a bad omen given shape.
obviously this wasn't the case, her egg was just laid on the PERFECT edge between light and water at a time when water magic was fluctuating just enough to let the light take root on one side and form a perfect harmony
(more details in her bio)
This isn't a belief held by other dragons except for particularly religious clans, most of my subclans either don't particularly care or have a way different worldview

This is such an interesting thread! Love reading about everyone's folklore (that may or may not be true). As for mine, every shadow dragon has heard about the creepy circus hidden in Foxfire Bramble or about the magical theater nested in Murkbarrow Close. Both exist, but their whimsical nature (my lair has a nightmare vs dream theme) guarantees long tales. Especially the circus, since it can be visited only once.
More info in my hidden. I'm on mobile and can't link specific dragons to guide you, sorry.
