@ReactorFour @Bashett Or - I just realized, but if you want I can just make versions that have the icon for your respective Flights. Like, a button that says 'catholic' but has the shadow or the lightning icon. Since buttons with these icons already exist (just with different text), that could be a short solution for me and one that should efficiently avoid risking imagery that is too religious for the site rules. (I'm still open to other suggestions though, if you come up with something that isn't really catholic but evokes it for you personally, or that you think would otherwise look good on your profile. I'm still bad at pixel art, but I can always try)

@Fractee : hey, no worries! i was thinking just the lightning flag/emblem we already have with the word 'Catholic' too if that is alright with you? :} thank you very much for your kindness in wanting to make these, i hope it hasn't been too stressful for you [emoji=familiar heart size=1]

@ReactorFour No problem! Thank you to you too for being so flexible with the request! Will probably be tackling this in a couple of days at most :)

Another idea could be to have a heart as the icon? Not to hard to draw (probably + we probably already have buttons I can base myself on + fairly generic)
(Don't mind me, I'm just brainstorming in case someone wants alternatives)

Hi @Fractee!
Overall, we're not thrilled about players using real world religion-specific buttons, as it formalizes a topic we are not equipped to moderate on our website. When it comes to our art/IP, we are a game focused on breeding 2D pixel dragons, based in a fantasy world. To answer your question, our IP and artwork has never been directly associated with any real-world religion and we do not want it to be, even in buttons.
And on a more general note for everyone: The most important point that I want to make clear is that this standpoint (about our art, religious imagery, buttons) is for the protection and long-term well-being of our community and players. In this case, once an artist starts accepting commissions for religious buttons, they must be willing to accommodate all religious groups. If someone reports to us that their religious group was discriminated against, our Support team must then investigate the report under our Rules & Policies. I want to make sure anyone involved understands the liability that they are exposing themselves to under our rules. To be clear: A player absolutely may choose to share their personal religion, religious choice, or identity in their Clan Profile or forum signature. There's a significant difference between when a player posts text in their own profile or forum signature, and staff being contacted for formal permission/endorsement of stylized buttons for religious affiliations.
And yes, ideally this is a topic we'd typically reroute to Contact Us, but the potential for the artists to be harassed over this topic is significant which is why I want you to have public-facing staff posts to point to, for your own safety. I know that these seem like harmless identity buttons, but please remember that there is a lot that you do not see as our team performs our daily tasks of moderating and administrating our website.
I hope this answers any remaining questions and addresses any lingering concerns regarding this issue. Thank you.

@Aequorin I'm sorry for pinging you again, I just wanted a clarification on something, so as to make sure I understand this fully to avoid being unclear on this in the future :/ Just wanted to ask, by "To answer your question, our IP and artwork has never been directly associated with any real-world religion and we do not want it to be, even in buttons", Do you mean that having the flight icons on the buttons, right next to the name of a religion for instance, may accidentally associate your website with the religion and come off as endorsement to some people, which could cause problems? If so, would for instance a heart symbol with simply a color palette that matches the different flight be okay, since it is a lot harder to associate with the artworks that are specific to this website and its lore? (Since it seems allowed, I'd like to be able to help others display this kind of thing on their profiles, but would rather make it as compliant with and inoffensive to the website as possible. Sorry again for all the trouble - I know I can come off as nitpicky and pedantic with all my questions, but I swear I'm not doing this on purpose to cause you problems :/ And thank you again so much for your time)
(Sorry also to fluffmoth for currently keeping the discussion here, since apparently moving it 'contact us' isn't necesarily a good idea :/)

Hi @Fractee! It's okay! You're fine. At most, this is a real-time example of why we prefer to avoid real-world religion and politics on our pixel dragon game. [emoji=familiar heart size=1]
You are correct, we don't want our artwork and IP associated with real-world religions. A heart of your own design would be fine.

okay, in light of the new info i'm once again adjusting my policies for the religion topic. i will not actively discourage people from requesting or posting religious buttons here, as long as they follow the guidelines laid out by staff. however, because of staff's emphasis on liability issues for artists involved, i will also not be hosting those buttons directly in the FR forum masterpost or posting any here myself.
i will probably include them in my neocities button database, since that database is not flight rising exclusive and may be useful to people on neocities or elsewhere, but i'll be sure to make a warning on any that may violate religion policies on FR and similar game sites. hopefully this works as a solution for everybody, if there are any further issues let me know!
i'm working on an update to the intro posts with links to Aequorin's statements for everyone's reference going forward

honestly this whole ruling has just been really strange and unclear, and i feel like it really wasn't a problem until this whole fiasco. i'm lucky to be part of one of the least oppressed religions in the entire world, but a lot of people are not that lucky and it does feel uncomfortable for there to be so many restrictions on something that is intensely personal (and sometimes not even religious, but rather ethnic or cultural, i.e. being jewish) for a lot of people.
i guess i feel uncomfortable that im allowed to have buttons expressing my gender, sexuality, my autism and my DID, and all of these other things, but a jewish person isn't as easily allowed to express their faith, or a muslim, or etcetera. i get that there are concerns of moderation and its understandable to want to mitigate that, but i wish the explanation was better than wording such as "you would have to allow desecration of symbols" and etcetera. it doesn't really feel like the ruling is considerate or appreciative of people but rather comes across more... disdainful? and implying hatred that nobody involved here was putting forward.
im arguing mountains out of molehills, really. its just bizarre that in a game where the lore explicitly operates multiple religions or religious-like cultures that the player is expected to somewhat partake in, that players are limited in how theyre allowed to express their own real world religion. the constant stress of "this is a game about 2D dragons" when that is a whole fundamental part of the game and it's mechanics (exalting, anyone?) feels sadly a little tone deaf. the whole conversation leaves a bad taste in the mouth, unfortunately, but i accept the ruling. i'm sorry @Fractee and @fluffmoth for any trouble, and id prefer to express for myself than i support people expressing their religion and don't have a concept of "going against mine". i guess others aren't so benevolent about that sort of thing, though :/
i want to reiterate i accept the ruling and i dont argue against it, its moreso the wording of the conversation and how it's been talked about that just bothers me a bit. i can't speak for how people of oppressed religions might feel and that's uncomfortable, but i suppose that's a matter of personal virtue. i hope that the ruling is made more clear in future and is spoken about with a little more care. i do appreciate everyone's understanding and civility in this whole discussion though, and once more apologize for causing trouble.
EDIT: i just want to edit to add after the fact that none of my criticisms here are on you as a person, Aeq. i respect you immensely and i know you are dealing with a lot currently (with the raffle situation and etc) and i appreciate you taking the time to clear this up multiple times. i know community manager burnout is very real and i just want to take the time to thank you for doing this for so long. i'll totally get over this, so don't worry about it, and i hope you're taking care of yourself [emoji=familiar heart size=1]
