Though the ruins have succumbed to the Scarred Wasteland’s climate, it is evident that they were a once grandiose city that housed an unknown colony of gigantic dragons. Though Imperials were the original suspected residents, the clan’s researchers and a few curious residents have come to the same conclusion: whoever occupied the city before them had to have been incredibly old. Most of the writings and inscriptions on the walls are long faded, but the precious few that have been preserved are written in a language that even the scholars cannot name, though Tauran believes it’s an old, primitive language. Then, of course, it leaves the question: where did the original residents go? The scattered, sun-bleached skeletons of Imperials around the territory - some even forming the part of the structures within the clan; fused to the walls or half-consumed by writhing tendrils - raise suspicions of Emperors, or perhaps a harsh battle. Even the hollowed caverns beneath the Festered Depths where Azazel makes his home are strange enough to attract attention; large, winding, twisting caverns with crumbling rockfalls that cover the entrance into even darker hallways. It is all meaningless speculation, of course - whatever once resided within The Keep is long gone, and Verivala have long since settled comfortably into it’s crumbling structures. Verivala had made itself known to him at a small marketplace, back when Torvus was a wandering collector, flitting from city to city on the hunt for interesting artifacts or little-known books. It was there, in a small town in the Starfall Isles, that Torvus had first heard of the strange, forgotten old city surrounded by ominous circumstances. He'd been scanning a small stall run by a nervous-looking fae, carefully flicking through books and texts about the rise of the Beastclans, when a smooth voice from beside him interrupted his thoughts. "Excuse me," the stranger said, and Torvus turned, ears pricked, to see a skydancer leaning over the stall, smiling at the stallkeeper as she approached. "I'm looking for some information, I was hoping perhaps you'd be able to help me find it." The skydancer boasted impressive runes and deep, sparking eyes; Arcaneborn, with the marks of a powerful mage, though he covered his face with hooded robes. Torvus watched from behind his book, curiosity piqued, as the skydancer asked the stallkeeper about any texts she had regarding old, grandiose cities in the Scarred Wasteland; specifically old, and incredibly large. "Unlikely," the fae murmured, turning to sift through a wooden crate of books she'd been sitting on previously. "I have some intriguing texts regarding Imperials...?" "No," the skydancer dismissed the notion almost immediately. "No, not Imperials. [i]Older[/i]." "A city of large proportions, older than Imperials?" the fae asked, shaking her head slightly. "I can't say I've heard of anything of the sort...I'm afraid I'm not sure how to help you." By this stage, Torvus had long since dropped the pretense that he hadn't been listening into their conversation. He placed the long-forgotten book back down on the stall and raised a hand. "Excuse me for interjecting," he said, and both the skydancer and the stallkeeper rounded on him at once. "I don't have any information for you but...well, my interests have always been historic ruins. I'm intrigued, I would love to help you, if you'd be so inclined?" The skydancer cocked his head at that. "An architect, are you?" he asked. "Oh, not quite. It's a - a passionate interest, you might say." The skydancer scrutinized him carefully for a long moment, an unreadable expression on his face, before giving him a bright smile that was all sharp teeth. "Sure," he said in that same, smooth tone. "If you make it there in one piece, I'm sure Octja would be thrilled to have you." And with that, Torvus found himself trekking to the Scarred Wasteland with his new companion - whose name was [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=43610&tab=dragon&did=43987003]Tauran[/url], he'd learned - with nothing but a pouch of his more valuable scrolls and a handful of gold. The Wasteland was not a place he had ever considered visiting - he'd grown up with tales of caution surrounding the place and it's nasty, inhospitable residents, though Tauran seemed friendly and polite enough. Along the way, Torvus was filled in on all of Verivala's details; the crumbling ruins, the ancient writings, the excessive size that was far larger than any other city they'd ever come across - even Imperials.
