Though corruptions strengthen in number and power, those who stay within Ra-Harenae and the protective aura of the Celestial Orbs are for the most part safe from attack. House Coelestis is all too aware of the threat of attack during this time, and in an effort to maintain the sense of peace and security during this time, they throw an extravagant festival named the Aegis Gala. This serves to effectively distract the populace, even as the Coelestian soldiers take extra measures to fortify the city outskirts from attack. The Aegis Gala occurs on the rare nights of both a full moon and winter solstice, which simultaneously occur about once every 30 years. Dragons revel in a frenzied fervor, donning masks and veils to hide their faces from corruptions. Firefly lanterns and starsilks are draped between the trees and Athiae glitters with thousands of silver fish imported just for the Gala. The palaces and complexes of the nobles are filled with revelers flaunting their finery. The Aegis Gala represents and celebrates the rebirth and flourishing of the city in spite of its past tragedies. Noble, merchant, and peasant alike cover their faces and put aside their divides to celebrate, as one, their ability to flourish under desert heat and unholy predator. The entire gala is an act of triumph, defiance, and solidarity. Traditionally, the Aegis Gala is preceded by three days of remembrance; the first day is an homage to those who died in the siege on the Citadel, the second for those who perished in the Saltplain Diaspora, and the third for the ancestors who survived to repopulate Ra-Harenae. It takes place at the beginning of each Sornieth Year around Brightshine Jubilee and lasts about 3 days, although it has gone up to a week in the past. The purpose of the Conclave is for Ra-Harenae’s prophets to collaborate on a yearly report of predictions using as many methods of foresight as possible. The prophets, too, are as varied as their methods, hailing anywhere from the temples of Aquarii to the Solar Sybilline to House Coelestis itself. The prophets report on topics ranging from Ra-Harenae’s economic health to possible corruption attacks to political events. First and foremost, though, has always been the fate of the Tidelord. A fair number of prophets each Conclave are former prophets of the Tidelord whose powers have been silent since the fall of the Citadel. The Conclave is typically civil, but the disappearance of the Tidelord is a touchy (but necessary) topic, especially since so many other prophets economically benefited from the sudden power vacuum left by the Tidelord’s priests. No blood has ever been shed during a Conclave, but it’s gotten close, and tensions escalate every year. Syzygy wine has a light, effervescent flavor with a low alcohol content and a faint blueberry flavor. It's typically a pale purple and comes in a shimmering glass bottle that's as much a work of art as it is a vessel. The grapes used to make the wine are of a rare variant grown in cold, high-altitude climates, and so delicate that sometimes the vineyard only yields a few dozen bottles a year. Demographics

Ra-Harenae is a diverse city where nearly every group is represented by at least a handful of residents.

Ra-Harenae stands on ground that technically falls under the domain of the Earthshaker, and the vast majority of hatchlings born in the city are of the earth flight. Some hatchlings born in the sea-facing side of the city fall under the water flight, and the Whitecliffs district in particular displays the highest demographic of water dragons.

Imperials in particular have a noticeably low presence in Ra-Harenae. The city has extremely tight regulations regarding imperial burial rites to avoid the risk of forming an emperor, or gods forbid, an emperor-based corruption. By law, all deceased imperials must be cremated or otherwise disposed of so that they leave no physical remains. A common practice to circumvent this law is to turn a near-death imperial into some other breed via breed change scroll.
