House Coelestis

The ruling house of Ra-Harenae has held its position since the siege of the Citadel, although its reign has not gone uncontested.

A noble house may challenge another house (including House Coelestis) for its position. Typically this involves nonlethal combat in the Kingmaker Coliseum, although there have been other methods of challenge such as a race or a game of strategy. House Coelestis remains undefeated, although there have been few challengers.

House Coelestis offers fair challenge, sovereign against sovereign, soldier against soldier; what the challenger offers, the house matches.
There does exist one blight on the history of challengers, a contender who sought strength in corruption, set on dethroning House Coelestis. His exile wasn’t peaceful, and still he sometimes rails against Ra-Harenae’s barrier, bringing siege upon siege of allied corruption against the city seeking revenge for his banishment.

Auroral Mageglass is a staple of Ra-Harenian technology thanks to its magic-altering properties.

A thin layer of highly polished mageglass can reflect spells. This has many uses, although the process to bring mageglass to such a brilliant finish is extremely labor-intensive and requires a highly skilled glazier, which means that most of these items are quite rare and expensive.
  • Some shields and armor make use of this property to deflect magical attacks. This does come with the additional risk of accidentally deflecting a spell in an unwanted direction, so those who wield such shields undergo extensive training to reduce the risk of friendly fire.
  • Mageglass-varnished tiles are the most effective way to insulate a building against magical intrusion. A fully-tiled room prevents all teleportation, scrying, or other attempts to see or gain entry into the space.
When made into a lens, auroral mageglass instead amplifies passing spells.
  • House Coelestis boasts an impressive observatory that heavily utilizes mageglass in its devices. Its most powerful tool is a colossal telescope with hundreds of glimmering mageglass lenses and reflective tiles, rivaling that of the Arcanist’s telescope itself.
