Come evening, I waltz with the stars Charmed by the mystical winds Blowing their own invisible dance, Across my home, this wonderful trance.” And so it was that in innocence and purity he grew. But this would all end abruptly one day. Transition “Dusk, we need to talk,” his father, Nimbus said in a serious tone, sitting beside him by the hearth in their den. “Sure,” smiled Dusk politely, carefully setting down his pen and book of poems. His mother stood oddly in the distance, her eyes fixated on the fire that burned beyond their two silhouettes, never turning to either of them. “There are things you must know, now that you’re old enough. There are dangers you must be made aware of...and decisions you must take,” said Nimbus. “Oh wow, that sounds intense dad,” joked Dusk. But Nimbus did not smile. “You know how sometimes you wake up in the night with an awful headache...after a horrible nightmare?” “Yep. They’re pretty awful. I’ve seen some weird things and I must say my imagination is quite the script writer. I believe that some of these ridiculous dreams are just....” “Son,” Nimbus cuts him off. “They’re not dreams.” They both stare blankly at each other. “All of the nightmares, all of the entities that haunt you...they’re real.” “Oh OK,” Dusk said sarcastically and then burst out laughing. “Listen to your father!” shouted Nebula all of a sudden, glaring at him with a look he had never seen before. “This is important. Probably the most important part of your life, Dusk. There’s a reason why we named you Dusk - there’s a reason why we don’t force you to play with other hatchlings. There is a reason why you are the only one that spends time speaking to the forest in the evenings and at night.” Dusk placed a palm on his forehead and felt sweat forming rapidly. Adrenaline rushed through his veins but he still did not understand what was going on. “Can you please explain this to me clearly? Preferably before I develop a panic attack?” His worry showed in his eyes and his parents reciprocated with the same expression. “Your father and I...we have done unspeakable things. But it has all been for the good of this clan.” “STOP speaking in codes and riddles! Tell me what I need to know,” pleaded Dusk. “Dusk, for years, we have devoted our lives...no...our souls, to protect this clan. You have heard rumors of the Void Prince, who seeks to destroy the Triad and the Dynasty. These are no rumors. He truly exists. But for now, he does not exist in our plane. The myths and legends of our clan’s ancestors sacrificing their souls to build him a dimensional prison...it’s all true.” Dusk sat there with wide eyes and his mouth open. There was nothing he could ask though there were a thousand questions flashing before his mind. “For decades, the clan has worked with mage warriors, life stealing sorcerers, oracles and dragons with different powerful abilities - all to hold him in place. He is a shade-touched beast that won’t stop trying to escape.” Nebula stopped to breathe. Nimbus continued. “If he does escape, we are doomed. And not just us...these lands will be destroyed. He will harm our allied kingdoms, plunder the beast clan villages and turn these lands into a desolate graveyard where only demons roam. And...” Dusk stood up, ignoring his father’s explanations. He walked up to his mother and looked her in the eyes, “What does this have to do with me?” “Your father and I are life stealers. We practice dark magic and create contracts with demonic entities to adapt their dark energy into our rituals. As a result, our hatchlings are all born with a curse. The spirits you see, the nightmares you experience...these are all real beings and experiences that we have opened you up to you, simply by bringing you into this world as our child. Not all dragons see the things you see when you’re in the woods - this is why we’ve let you be by yourself...so you wouldn’t be judged by the other youngsters of this clan.” “Wait...so, our Empress knows about all of this? And she allows this?” Dusk asked, still in shock. “Yes,” his parents replied in zombie-like unison. “Ok. Thanks for the bombshell after all these years, mom and dad. But I still don’t know what I’m supposed to know…” “There are demons that we’ve signed pacts with. They come for our hatchlings once every few years. They take their souls as sacrifice...and we tell everyone that they've only been exalted. If they find you here in the Starwood Strand, they will occupy your soul too.” “WHAT,” shouted Dusk, turning to both of them simultaneously. “All of our hatchlings see these demons in the dusk. But you are the only one has befriended them...or so you think. Many of the spirits you consider friends...they’re just tricksters. They’ve protected you in the woods for all of these years so that when the time comes, they can have you for themselves.” “I cannot believe you two, I cant belie-” “The ones that leave are lucky,” Nimbus interrupted his anger. “The ones that stay, we cannot help. It is just the way things are. If there are no hatchlings, we sacrifice something else to appease them when they arrive." “This is disgusting,” snapped Dusk. “Surely you are smart enough to understand that what we do, we do for the greater good,” his mother touched his face gently, with sorrowful eyes. “I...I’m sorry...I understand,” Dusk whispered, comforted by his mother’s touch, letting his head fall to the floor as he felt her warmth against his cheek. Something he will never feel again after this fateful evening. “They arrive tomorrow. So you must leave tonight,” his father announced rather coldly, holding in all of his painful remorse...and holding back a thousand tears. Dusk left silently that night, through the tunneling glow of the Starwood Strand. The radiance of the blossoms reflected on his tears as he carried his satchel that held some apparel, a few potions and new book, ‘The Art of Summoning for beginners’ that his father presented to him on his departure. The spirits he once played with every night no longer came out to greet him as he walked through the woods. They watched him with rage, from behind thickets and trunks of trees. "If only he stayed one more night..." they whispered to each other. His mother’s last words rang in his ears all through his journey. “No spirit will ever possess you, son. You are meant for greater things. You hold all the powers within you that your father and I have. It is your choice to use them...or abuse them. I hope you choose the path of the light. I pray to our deity that you never have to make the choices we have made. Always remember us, Dusk. We will never forget you.” Present Times Heeding his mother’s words, Dusk chose the path of the light. He travelled for weeks to reach the northeast coast of the Sunbeam Ruins. Here, he chose to join a clan of commercial traders, the Disillusionists. His gut feeling swore that he would find his calling here, far from the conniving demons that sought after his soul in his homeland. Dusk now spends his days working as an artisan who weaves textiles to display in the street market stalls. He spends his nights practicing the art of summons. And when the evenings are still and silent, sweet but sorrowful poetry seeps out of his heart and onto his fingertips. The Summoner
The secrets of the Dusk can only be revealed by the Light.

arcanemid.png

Parents
Dusk was born into a large Clan known as the Drake Dynasty, that occupies vast expanses of land across the Starfall Isles, with one kingdom situated in the Focal Point, two queendoms in the Crystal Pine Reaches and Starwood Strand, along with a nexus (base) located in the Observatory. His parents belong to the Queendom of the Starwood Strand - Nimbus and Nebula, powerful sorcerers that practice dark arcane magic.

Dusk’s birth lair was built along the former shoreline, now filled with tall, mystical trees that blossom under the moonlight. It is a place known for its radiant wonderment, its ability to reveal one’s deepest thoughts and true inner-self. However, it is a region that holds secrets darker than the Tangled Woods has ever known. It’s beauty fools those who are naive at heart. While most others get lost in the beauty among the stars of the skies and the glimmering flowers of the night, only the wise know what truly lurks beyond the romantic facade of this region...wise mages like Dusk’s parents.

Nimbus and Nebula serve the clan as dark mages. They help fortify the clan’s boundaries through the use of unconventional methods - mainly the practice of forbidden rituals to communicate with shade touched forces dwelling in other worldly planes.

Life stealing mages by profession, the couple continually seeps energy out of a prisoner that lays dormant in another dimension, trapped by powerful Arcane magic.

Childhood
Dusk was born into the world without much knowledge of darkness and danger. He spent the first of his days playing among the glowing blossoms of the Starwood Strand’s glimmering flora.
Dusk wrote poetry and songs about the things he saw and felt. Little did he know, he was seeing much more than any normal dragon would have been able to.

Dusk’s world changes each evening when the sun starts to set - he sees wisps of things that once were, spirits that still roam the lands, and they acknowledge his presence as well. As a hatchling, he thought this was all normal, that everyone else saw what he saw. Being an introvert, he did not spend much time talking about these things with others - he never saw the need to. Again, for him, this was a reality he thought he shared with everyone else.

Dusk’s Song
“Come evening, my spirit fills with joy,
To unite with voices of the dusk.
I behold their truths and harmony
But also hold their pain in my heart.

Come evening, they sing to me,
Beside the dying water lilies,
And night blossoms reborn to glow
That set my lonely spirit aglow.

Come evening, I waltz with the stars
Charmed by the mystical winds
Blowing their own invisible dance,
Across my home, this wonderful trance.”

And so it was that in innocence and purity he grew.
But this would all end abruptly one day.

Transition
“Dusk, we need to talk,” his father, Nimbus said in a serious tone, sitting beside him by the hearth in their den.

“You know how sometimes you wake up in the night with an awful headache...after a horrible nightmare?”

“Yep. They’re pretty awful. I’ve seen some weird things and I must say my imagination is quite the script writer. I believe that some of these ridiculous dreams are just....”

“Son,” Nimbus cuts him off. “They’re not dreams.”

They both stare blankly at each other.

“All of the nightmares, all of the entities that haunt you...they’re real.”

“Oh OK,” Dusk said sarcastically and then burst out laughing.

“Listen to your father!” shouted Nebula all of a sudden, glaring at him with a look he had never seen before. “This is important. Probably the most important part of your life, Dusk. There’s a reason why we named you Dusk - there’s a reason why we don’t force you to play with other hatchlings. There is a reason why you are the only one that spends time speaking to the forest in the evenings and at night.”

Dusk placed a palm on his forehead and felt sweat forming rapidly. Adrenaline rushed through his veins but he still did not understand what was going on.

“Can you please explain this to me clearly? Preferably before I develop a panic attack?”
His worry showed in his eyes and his parents reciprocated with the same expression.

“Your father and I...we have done unspeakable things. But it has all been for the good of this clan.”

“STOP speaking in codes and riddles!

The myths and legends of our clan’s ancestors sacrificing their souls to build him a dimensional prison...it’s all true.”

Dusk sat there with wide eyes and his mouth open.

And...”

Dusk stood up, ignoring his father’s explanations. He walked up to his mother and looked her in the eyes, “What does this have to do with me?”

“Your father and I are life stealers. Not all dragons see the things you see when you’re in the woods - this is why we’ve let you be by yourself...so you wouldn’t be judged by the other youngsters of this clan.”

“Wait...so, our Empress knows about all of this? And she allows this?” Dusk asked, still in shock.

“Yes,” his parents replied in zombie-like unison.

“Ok. Thanks for the bombshell after all these years, mom and dad. But I still don’t know what I’m supposed to know…”

“There are demons that we’ve signed pacts with. They come for our hatchlings once every few years. They take their souls as sacrifice...and we tell everyone that they've only been exalted. If they find you here in the Starwood Strand, they will occupy your soul too.”

“WHAT,” shouted Dusk, turning to both of them simultaneously.

“All of our hatchlings see these demons in the dusk. But you are the only one has befriended them...or so you think. Many of the spirits you consider friends...they’re just tricksters. They’ve protected you in the woods for all of these years so that when the time comes, they can have you for themselves.”

“I cannot believe you two, I cant belie-”

“The ones that leave are lucky,” Nimbus interrupted his anger.
“The ones that stay, we cannot help. It is just the way things are. If there are no hatchlings, we sacrifice something else to appease them when they arrive."

“This is disgusting,” snapped Dusk.

We will never forget you.”

Present Times
Heeding his mother’s words, Dusk chose the path of the light.

He hopes to be a powerful Summoner one day...
