I like love the eyes and can’t wait to look at them in the scrying workshop this game is the bomb!
I like love the eyes and can’t wait to look at them in the scrying workshop this game is the bomb!
@Andrewsarchus

Thanks - and yes, I just read your post and you nailed it. It's fundamentally about THE LACK OF CHOICE in how this was implemented.

Those scries you posted? Are beautiful. If this mechanic had been added as something players could work towards, something we could CHOOSE to try for/use or not, I would be ECSTATIC. Even if it was just an item to apply to a nest, giving a chance at the new eyes, which might still be unbreedable.

I WOULD HAVE CRIED FOR JOY AT SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

As long as players could still have some control over it. Could guarantee that it would NOT force something onto their dragons WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT, PERMANENTLY.

Instead, as currently implemented the Eye Types update turns what had been a game based on a very cool, very fun, amazingly customizable but clear set of tools into a forced game of dragon roulette. Without warning, and without lasting ways into integrate a meaningful degree of player choice back into the mix.

I didn't sign up for FR to play at a dragon casino - if that's what I wanted, I would hatch exclusively G1s.

I signed up to enjoy designing and breeding specific dragons. I've dumped at lot of real-world cash into this, like many many other players.

And now the most basic rule changes, without warning? Combined with a very-limited, very-briefly-available permanently retiring consumable item that is the ONLY way to even have a CHANCE at undoing the worst results of the new random feature?

This has shaken my trust in the FR staff in a way that NO other decision ever has - not un/retiring items, not coli changes, nothing comes close.

I seriously have to question if they sat down and really thought about the potential impact on players at all - especially breeders.

And why they thought this particular combination of changes, made with literally no warning, would go over well with people who have spent years learning how to best understand and use that (otherwise-amazing!) set of beautiful breeding tools that is the very heart of FR gameplay.

Staff, please listen: I know you can't immediately announce a decision without consulting with each other, etc. But some sign that you are reading and carefully considering what players are saying here would do a lot to keep player trust from crumbling completely.

This isn't just another expensive-item debate. This is about the most fundamental mechanic of the game. This is about, very literally, the nature of the game itself as a breeding game:
  • Is FR a game where lots of effort and attention is required to reach your goal, but it IS definitely reachable?

    OR
  • Is FR essentially gambling, with some pretty customization options but no real way to ensure that you EVER can reach the goal you want?

Because the latter makes for a lot more frustrated, bitter players and more players leaving, and ultimately could seriously shift the entire tone and community here.

I would genuinely hate to see that happen, when you all have put in such effort and time to develop an otherwise really remarkable and wonderful set of tools that I have so loved playing with.

I am - and many other players are, I'm sure - grateful for all the work you do! It's not easy and you can't please everyone all the time, but overall FR is a wonderful game and wonderful social site.

I - We - really don't want to see it all potentially vanish, or get turned into something frustrating instead of fun. Truly.

That is my overarching point with all this. Don't change the very nature of the game itself all of a sudden, without warning. It ruins what is BEST about FR.

Okay... I do understand that not everyone is happy about the primal (most arent my cup of tea too) and the many-eye-thingy, but I dont get the drama about the common to rare eyes & farcet. You can hardly notice them on most breeds...?

I have mixed feelings about the eyes, and I'd love a way to remove the unusual ones somehow back into common ones (Similar to Remove Gene scrolls).
I am however very excited for the Hibernal Den and a way to sort the lair.

@Andrewsarchus I understand your point and I'm sad to read how disappointed you are, still your analogy is not fitting for a fundamental reason: you are not a customer here and you are not paying for any service. You are a player in a free-to-play game. The eyes update is a free sandwich along with a free meal, following your example, so the point of view is definitely different! :)
Of course giving your point of view is good, but I think that being overemotional and threatening to leave the game if they don't do exactly what YOU want is only weakening your argument instead of reinforcing it.

Also, even if they won't introduce any method of reverting to common eyes, it seems to me that you are overexaggerating the issue anyway, and I'm saying this without any form of malice.
In your example of finally getting the perfect dragon, first of all consider that on most adults you can't even tell the difference between most of the eyes apart from the very weird (and rare) ones.
If you use one or two vials how are the chances of still getting rare and weird eyes? I think the perfect dragon(s) should be safe, or at least this doesn't look like an issue so tragic to force players to leave.
In any case I support the idea of introducing a "revert to common eyes" scroll, so everyone can be happy again, I guess?

@McAlli Sorry to read about your coli experience, that really must suck!

Wow wow wow, I love the new eyes!

I can't wait for the Hibernal Den too! I have so many old dragons that I love visually but don't plan on breeding or using in the coliseum, so being able to make more space in my lair for those projects while still being able to keep and showcase my oldies sounds fantastic!

One question though: Will the size of the Hibernal Den have a dragon limit that grows in proportion to your Lair or will it have slots that needs to be unlocked separately?

players have phobias, ya know? having these eyes be randomized means players could see these eyes (for example: primal plague or multi-sight) and feel extremely uncomfortable and potentially not want to play anymore.

THIS. Yes, thank you - I should have mentioned this aspect too.

This can be a HUGE issue for people with phobias like that, and given the critique/etc. around some skins, etc. in the past, it's not like this is a totally unforeseeable issue to the devs.

[/quote] Hey, just to point this out: We ARE customers. Yes, this game is Free-To-Play, but myself and many others have actively purchased Gems and allowed Flight Rising to generate Ad Revenue from our browsing. Especially in terms of Gem Purchases? We ARE paying customers, directly paying FR for a service, and therefore we CAN expect a certain level of accountability and responsibility on FR's part.

The dragon organisation sounds great, but I'm still waiting for a better hoard (and vault) organization. Sometimes I search for ages for an apparel or familiar because I don't remember when it was launched compared to other items. (After 30 pages it gets confusing)

And the eyes are a great idea, but there is also another chance to destroy breeding projects more often if you can't remove them.
