While they do not swim fast, they are energetic and affectionate creatures. Nibblers have been recorded to be extremely loyal to their handlers, and despite their size have been known to put themselves between their handler and any other creature that would dare threaten them. Croaking Boglights consume all kinds of mushrooms, even toxic ones, and use those toxins to create a noxious cloud of spores when they need self defense. Because of their peculiar nature, these teeny amphibians are a favored familiar among vampires, witches and necromancers, as they make perfect spies in and around their lairs. It is only known among seasoned adventurers that Croaking Boglights originate from a mother gourd that links all its progeny through telepathy. This "queen gourd" as it is often referred to, is a massive gnarled pumpkin covered in fungal growths. These fungi act as food for young Boglights who rely on the mother gourd while they are growing. They follow the will of the gourd, to survive and thrive. In the event that their mother gourd is compromised, adult Boglights will dig into the earth and bury themselves until their tiny growth germinates into a new mother gourd, thus establishing a new colony. Their tail is serpentine and flexible, with a barbed tip that can whip and sting like a scorpion. As a product of a dark and ancient magic, they have a range of fearsome skills. They are often villainized as an evil version of a sandman, with the ability to breathe out a cloud of black smoke that can induce sleep and night terrors in those who inhale their spectral fumes. Nychtmares can also sense the emotions and thoughts of others, and can use them to influence nightmares that suit their tastes. They will then devour the nightmares and negativity associated with them, leaving an individual with a quiet and dreamless sleep. Their true origins are shrouded in mystery, however it is rumored that a Ghast Howler is born when a restless spirit anchors itself to a geode. In the dark depths of the earth they develop a hunger for minerals and precious ores, which they use to sustain themselves and build their shape. The more a Ghast Howler consumes, the more fearsome it becomes in spirit and power. Powerful Ghast Howlers are large skeletal beasts with roaring manes of vibrant spectral flames. Within the ribcage - their lifeline, a flaming heart shaped geode. As their existence depends on it, they are fiercely defensive of any living thing that approaches them. Weaker Ghast Howlers can go dormant in an attempt to preserve and protect themselves. This results in the occasional specimen ending up in unusual locations as they end up getting "abducted" by unknowing adventurers. It's quite a shocking surprise when any attempt to crack or open the geode leads to it igniting in spectral flames and producing haunting cries of agony and anguish. With clever and quick thinking, one may find that the embers of a dying flame and the presence of crystals soothes the agonizing cries and tames the spectral flames.
