I know it's too late for the contest (I misunderstood what time it ended) but I'm excited because I finally finished a contest entry and it's my first garden with dragons, so I hope it's ok to post it anyway! [center][size=5]MIDGROUND!, content, jank, and asking for art help[/size] Hey folks! [img]https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/959662576541790291/1045121391437021254/unknown.png[/img][/center] Initial implementation of the [b]midground is here[/b]! In order to get them in for Rockbreaker's, they're in a beta state. For now you can only choose one (drop-down menu like skies), and they use the same color palette as the ground. That's not permanent, just didn't want to be a month late on this. There's some counter-jank in case you want your ground cover and midground to use different palettes; the midground only updates when you [re]generate the garden, so just hit the "reroll ground" button and you're good. Overlays (the #ocean%50 things) can go on midgrounds just fine, they'll have the same ones as the first seed in the list. Also, known glitch: there's something weird going on if the first thing in the garden is a catalog one, and the second is an overlay: [center][img]https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/959662576541790291/1046574804033077349/unknown.png[/img][/center] this is [s]hilarious[/s] niche enough, and likely enough something that'll be fixed in the next chunk of coding, that it's staying in for now. Oop ANYWAYS [b]there's 4 midgrounds for now[/b]! More later probably. The hills are kind of janky yet, but please understand I've drawn like. four entirely different hill tiles to completion only to discard them for looking bad and if I draw one more hill this weekend, the laptop is going out the window. Oh, they're reactive to garden height--try increasing the height on the cavern one, it's a good time Also, maybe sped up image loading on some machines??? and more concretely, fixed an issue with commas in the plant mixer and analyzer (thanks, @Frigate!) Content wise, we've got [b]4 new bases[/b], namely an organ pipe cactus from @RedRevival and an overgrown ruined arch from @Xaotician! I'm really excited to finally add these, they're PERFECT for Rockbreaker's and super pretty. I also stuffed a big rock and bamboo in there (it came out looking more like the world map bamboo than intended...you'll know it when you see it), [b]as well as an old base[/b]: my favorite rock. Previously catalog-only, now not because we have a lot more palettes now. Didn't want to overwhelm with all the rocks though, lemme know how we are on rocks. Limestone, dusk, red rock, and a grey with a slight rainbow hue to it :) the cactus is limestone but it got caught in the overlay so it's not actually accurate to the palette, that's my bad, don't ask. Some of this will be straight-up QoL. [center] [size=5]The part where I awkwardly ask for help[/size][/center] So between the midgrounds and the holidays, I've exhausted my entire base backlog. The next bit of code is going to be [b]involved[/b], and isn't something I can release in chunks (that's why the midgrounds are janky right now--I've implemented as much as I can without needing to undo it later). Basically, I need to go full code mode on this project in the same moment I don't have any backup art to support me going full code mode. Thankfully, as I'm sure you've noticed, a lot of the very best art in the tool comes from folks who aren't me! And thanks to the kindness of those folks, I do have a psuedo-backlog in the form of sprites that haven't gone in yet, but which aren't mine. So I did formally want to say--[b]if you've ever wanted an excuse to try some low-res pixel art, have the free time and spoons, and are open to your art going in a tool like this (free and open source software), this is the perfect time[/b], and please let me know what kind of information would be helpful! As for what art's needed, whatever you're interested in doing is a good, so long as it's not someone else's intellectual property (also means no dragon breeds, sadly, at least not in the tool itself). People've requested a rafflesia, clovers (possibly giant clovers), lily of the valley, sunflowers, kites, and "any critter", all the other requests are in! We'll probably generically need more rocks and stuff like crates. I also know in advance I'm going to struggle drawing a desert midground, since dunes are like hills and apparently those are anathema to me. Oh my gosh, these are amazing! I would absolutely love to try my hand at some bases (I wanna draw a snake), but unfortunately my laptop’s still on the fritz, and I don’t own an iPad. Oh well, maybe sometime in the future. [emoji=spiral happy size=1]

I actually wanted to make frogs but @redrevival was faster and excellent job, ily for it, they are so good!!!! I am currently a bit busy with other art BUT you can certainly count me in, I'll definitely make some more contributions as I've promised, but it might take a week or so until I can get back to it. i have never tried pixel art in my life before, but for more plants and plant buddies i will give it a shot! i've got ideas for lupine flowers, more streetlamps (we need more lights), and since we can make wetlands now, some wetland animal friends!
