Biography
Lev
Levantera
Astronomer
Levantera doesn't remember a time when she was not alone. She knows that it must have been so, at one point, but her first memory is that of an adult. Fire. Everywhere. After that, she couldn't bear the thought of going home—even if she knew where home was. She didn't need a home, anyway, or at least that is what she told herself. And she told herself this so often that she had come to believe it, for a time. All she needed were her wits, and the strength of her wings, and that was all she needed for years. She has mixed feelings about her time spent in Shadow. Looking back, that clan—that mate—was a sort of half-way point in her life, a liminal space. She had never been truly satisfied there, and sometimes she wonders why she stayed at all in that all consuming, all encompassing darkness. It was a darkness that clung to her like ink, a feeling she could never shake off. Eventually she grew to hate it. She had to leave. She had to. Not even her mate had been enough to make her stay, and she realizes, reluctantly, that that means she had never really loved him. Every once in a while she mourns that fact, but she has grown to accept it. She would never be able to tell you, in the end, whether she was glad when she met the persistent Senna while crossing through Light. She certainly remembers being irritated, at the beginning, by the chatter of the other dragon, and her persistent friendliness didn't endear her to start, either. But she slowly found the other dragon growing on her—no matter what she did to try to drive her off, she stayed. A part of her, she will admit, was reluctantly impressed by the dragon's tenacity, and almost touched. Eventually Levantera just couldn't imagine life without her. In some ways her arrival in Clan Yulon felt anti-climatic. Nothing felt... NEW. Or very different. It was brighter, sure, and the very air didn't suffocate her like it did in Shadow, but in some ways it was like any other clan she had passed through. For a time she felt she would move on again, soon. That she wouldn't have any reason to stay. But what she soon realized, is that it all felt right. She liked the people, and the place, and she was comfortable. There was a place for her here, Kelsus said: they could use her brilliant, strategic mind. They could use her experience, and she would make something of herself. And then there was Anivia... Anivia was something else. Anivia was beautiful, in a way nothing else had been beautiful before. If Senna was her first true friend, then Anivia was her first true love. At first she had tried to convince herself that it wouldn't last—she'd fall out of love with this dragon just as she did with her previous mate—but Anivia made it harder and harder to deny herself the happiness she dreamed of having with her. Eventually, she realized that she wouldn't be able leave, that maybe she never would be able to. Levantera is okay with this. She is more than okay with this.
