Biography
TSURU
SEER

Tsuru was born in the Tsunami Flats, amongst tide pools that nurtured small and otherwise defenseless hatchlings, amongst gently lapping waves that lulled inhabitants into a deep sleep after a long day in the sun. She was born amongst laughter and joy, to a clan who had not seen the gift of prophecy among one of their own for so long that many believed the gift to be just another legend. This proved not to be true, as it was quickly revealed that Tsuru was a powerful oracle; unfortunately, her prophecies tended to be disastrous.
They started out small, innocent predictions like, no food being brought home from gathering that day, or that one of her clanmates would step on a broken shell and cut their foot. Some of them were beneficial: a hidden treasure would be located in a certain cove, her aunt would find her true love soon, things like that. But when it really mattered, when Tsuru predicted a great storm that threatened to wipe out her birthclan, and many of the neighboring clans, the leaderandrefused to believe her. They said that it was impossible, that they had been around for far longer than Tsuru had been, and that the Tidelord would protect them. That, look, there’s not even clouds in the sky; be quiet, girl, and go back to making small and harmless predictions. It was to everyone’s surprise (but her own) when a sudden hurricane came that night and swept away everyone who wasn’t prepared. Unfortunately, Tsuru was the only one prepared. She wandered for weeks among the tide pools, looking for any hint of another dragon, any evidence that she wasn’t the only one to survive. When she did find another dragon, they were much too young to have been survivors of the storm; new dragons moving in to start a new clan, she guessed. After a while, Tsuru began having visions of another clan, a newfound light clan, vulnerable because of its size but powerful because of the dedication its members had. As well as having visions of normal, everyday life, Tsuru also witnessed the clan passing through horrors and hardships. Eventually, Tsuru decided to seek this clan out, guided by her visions and led astray by her horrible sense of direction. After months of wandering, Tsuru was finally able to locate the clan, and just in time she had just seen a vision of the clan being destroyed, but she knew she might be able to prevent it. Upon her arrival at Clan Yulon, Tsuru split the clan in half; half distrusted her and her strange prophecies, half wanted to follow her every advice. Luckily for Tsuru, the clan’s leader and her mate, Kelsus and Maia, decided to hear her prophesy and advice before making any judgement. And, for some strange, unknown reason, they decided to trust her advice and, as a result, they were able to prevent the catastrophe she envisioned. They learned later on that that fate was left to another clan that had wandered too close to the Hewn City at the wrong time; the catastrophe? A freak encounter with an emperor that proved unnaturally strong. Fortunately, many clans (including Clan Yulon) were able to band together and destroy the emperor after learning about its existence. Time and time again, Tsuru has proved herself with varying prophecies of varying levels of seriousness. She has shown herself to be invaluable, preventing both nearapocalypses and providing nearinnumerable amounts of wealth to the clan during its times of need. Others have also proved themselves to her; after learning that she was not a fraud, and purely interested in the continuing survival of Clan Yulon, they began to visit her at all times of day and night to ensure that she wouldn’t be in any danger in case of a sudden prophesy, as well as to record any prophecies that she, herself, would be unable to remember. Over time, Tsuru was able to fit into a different role in the clan, other than the somewhat fluctuating role of oracle, the role of a teabrewer. Although it would seem inconsequential and unneeded, Tsuru’s ability to brew the perfect tea for any situation has benefited the clan by both giving something to calm others down, as well as providing an extra source of money for the clan and also providing a base to slip in something whether poison or medicine unnoticed. Tsuru is plenty happy to help the clan in any way she can, although it is obvious that she is much more comfortable helping dragons than helping others to hurt dragons. Tsuru is slightly suspicious and wary of strangers in the clan, as hypocritical it may sound, due to a combination of her nature as a water dragon and the stigma she has experienced about her ability to see into the future. Despite this, however, she is plenty welcoming to new members of Clan Yulon once they prove that they’re loyal, usually by stopping over at her lair for a cup of tea once or twice. She has also, in a way, become a sort of mother for all of the clan’s members due to her wise nature and her comforting presence, although she does feel slightly overwhelmed by the many dragons who stop by her lair to ask for advice. Every time, Tsuru is careful to emphasize that her ability isn’t under her control and comes and goes at random to her, it seems that, after a few visits, they are able to understand this. She feels a rush of warmth when these dragons continue to come to her for advice and company, despite knowing that she won’t be able to give them exact outcomes or provide more precise advice. |
