Biography
Cinder
Cinder was mysteriously and unexpectedly hatched as a Fire hatchling to a pair of loving Shadow parents, who loved their child dearly but quickly realized they would not be able to raise a Fire hatchling under their current capabilities. It broke their hearts to turn Cinder over to the Clan of the Striking Bolt, but they knew that at least there, in Electrician’s Edge, Cinder could receive the proper care and love which she deserved.
And here, Cinder did indeed receive that care and love. But not from Pegasus, the clan’s hatchling caretaker — from the clan’s magic specialists. While Pegasus initially stepped up, certain magic users quickly swooped in to gush over the hatchling. Premina and Pitch were Cinder’s surrogate parents, and a young Cinder never knew a day without her toys coming to life at Pitch’s claws, or her favorite snacks growing in size from a drop of Premina’s potions, with a wink from the culprit.
It came as a surprise to no one when Cinder chose to devote her life to magic in the same manner as the adult figures in her life who she trusted the most. Specifically, Cinder chose to focus her education into the art of conjuring. While Pitch’s magic brings inanimate objects to life, and Premina’s magic changes the qualities of objects, Cinder brings things from one realm to another. Her magic is twofold: conjuring and banishment, although she is quite relieved that she has never had to use banishment in self-defense, and only as a means of excusing a summoned creature.
The creature which Cinder has found herself summoning the most often is a species of small soot sprites, tiny and wriggling little blobs of soot with wide and playful eyes, who leave trails of ash and smears of soot wherever they go. Although Cinder can summon any number of critters, ranging from the mundane such as frogs and toads to the grandiose such as unicorns, the soot sprites always manage to make an appearance in one way or another. At first, Cinder was annoyed by their arrivals, especially the uninvited ones, but she has quickly come around to loving them, and is constantly doting on them and cooing over them. One — or many! — can often be found riding on her shoulders.
Cinder is often frustrated at the lack of necessity for her area of magic, and feels useless to her clan, but her fellow magic specialists frequently remind her of something: Regardless of what purpose her magic has, she is having fun in her area of research, and her little soot sprites are more than happy to chirp with agreement. And Cinder always keeps in mind that she can indeed banish something — if the day comes that something attacks the clan and they are unprepared for it, she is more than willing to draw her staff.
