Vestige doesn’t remember who they are. They probably wouldn’t have had enough of themself left to stick around, if a meddling Wildclaw with careful, practiced hands hadn’t caught them by the wisps of their spirit and pinned them to a pair of gloves.

The gloves feel familiar. Maybe the gloves used to belong to them. Or maybe to someone important to them?

The first time Vestige asks Memento to try them on, they discover their ability to “read” objects - the stories of well-loved bits of junk that look like they should be haunted, but that Memento hadn’t found any spirits to associate with. Who it was who had loved them, why they’d been left behind. (It’s a shame that this doesn’t work on Vestige’s own gloves.)

Together, caught up in what these forgotten things have to say, they bind someone to that empty locket, that shattered pocketwatch, that patched-up plushie. Not someone dead - someone new.
