I was once beloved, you know.
Dragons great and small would line the streets to profess their loyalty to me. I can see them now - their bright, shining eyes, smiling faces, in awe of their king.
That was a long time ago.
When was the last time my name was uttered? I haven't felt it for some time. Will it never be spoken again?
You see, the good times are just that. Good times. They have a beginning, and of course they must have an end. My closest allies, well, they turned on me. I don't know what evil spirit intruded upon their hearts, but they cast me from my throne and set upon me like a hunted animal.
But there was the Monastery. A great shining beacon of faith and hope, and all things good in this world. I was always a pious dragon, and I had faith. I had faith.
I could practically feel the gods here. I still can. The earth itself hums with their presence. But, in hindsight, I suppose there can be no light without casting a shadow. I found myself surrounded by guards in shining armour.
Were they offered coin? Was it personal? A grudge I had forgotten? I don't like to think about it. I have too much time to think.
The end came in the form of six spearheads, all at once. But then, it couldn't have ended, because I am still here, bound to this place.
It was a beautiful place to die.
But I do miss it - the old songs, the laughter, my name - oh how they would cheer my name!
They look through me now. I try to reach out and sometimes I almost succeed...
I think I will close my eyes and remember now. Back to the good times. When the banners hung so magnificently, and the sun shone so warmly on my scales. The music would play into the night, echoing through the streets... ah... I can hear it now...
