Biography
As the hatchling of a homunculus parent, Vanth had unstable internal magic since she was very young, and was sickly as a result. Her parents were patient and nurturing. Vanth always knew she'd never be as fast, strong or enduring as many dragons, but she learnt early on that it didn't matter. She was alive and loved, and gave love in return. Vanth was still able to help her father in his beneficient witchcraft, scavenge useful materials from abandoned lairs and places where dragons dumped their rubbish, befriend crows, and speak with spirits who had requests regarding their living loved ones. The Skydancer even made contact with others like her. She found a community who managed their daily difficulties. Who nonetheless laughed and cried, pursuing fulfilling lives. While the ignorant and able-bodied looked down on Vanth's personal achievements with pity, they still belonged to her. Life may not have been easy, but Vanth and the others had worked hard to make as much of it as they could. She was happy. That was before the fallen witch came. That individual was certain they knew what was right, heedless of what the very dragons they intended to help thought. Vanth remembers only that she was visited and taught. The child-eater erased her memories of what they were like, and that was the least of their crimes. The egotistical witch saw a dragon in their prime who lost life's coin toss in the egg. Some children of homunculi were blessed not cursed, as the interloper saw it. All Vanth's potential snatched away by illness, so the stranger believed. The child-eater made their preparations, and managed to lure Vanth out on her own. Dragons often fought what was best for them in their experience, like hatchlings turning their noses up at foul medicine. The fallen witch was able to stabilise Vanth's magic capacity, and enable her to absorb environmental magic as her mother did. With Vanth ensnared, the arrogant witch wiped away all they believed to cause suffering. As well as the illness itself, they removed all memory of it. Struggles, triumphs, the simple truths of day to day life, gone. All Vanth's fondest memories of home, her successes, her friends and family, everything was scrubbed away. A wholly different dragon awoke with the taste of bonemeal on her tongue. She learnt of the cruelty that gave child-eaters their name and power. Although the heartless witch had to teach Vanth how to go about her new life, they now held a willing student in their power, and so spread their perverted craft.
A few crows follow her still.
Reproach? Forgiveness? Pity? Curiosity? The answer is a mystery. |
-Familiar Ties |
March, the Crow Moon These dragons are meticulous scavengers (and curious to a fault), and are often seen picking at the remains or dwellings of Child-Eaters' hovels. More often than not, anyone can get confused upon which Witch has become a Child-Eater and so these dragons are here to help them differentiate. Very much like the Witchborne of the Wolf Moon, they have a reputation of being crafty wisdom-keepers, but are also rumored to be terrible at keeping secrets. Nevertheless, Witchborne under the Crow Moon also have the ability to communicate with the dead, as they prove to be more truthful than any other evidence. The information they take from the dead, such as from murder victims, are scarily accurate that could pinpoint the exact time of their own deaths, the murder weapon, their attacker. Often times, they also depend on the spirits in thrall with the Witchborne of the Wolf Moon that they may rely on. Through this, they can't either be lied to as they are quite quick to know the truth through supernatural perception. |
Element: SHADOW Rarity: RARE |
Obscurus Witchborne are often avoided as they are known to be easily manipulated by the Shade, hence the heavy care and scrutiny taken in rearing these Witchbornes, if ever there are. Dragons born under this element are gifted in the following:
