The first few generations of any new part of the world are always a little odd, a little unsteady, still learning the land and the ways to best live there. Tiamat's daughters in particular are a fine example of that type of oddness.

Ninlil is a charming and easily charmed individual prone to follow whims and fancies, eager to learn and discover, though not oblivious to the difficulties of her parents and clan elders. In an encounter with a stranger it was she who called her own clan and their neighbours the "Ruinflight", a name that has since stuck. She was never very interested in the outside world, being content to live in her own happy corner of existence, though passionately curious about everything in it. The nature of that corner makes her seem more urbane and refined than she perhaps might be; mimicking graces is easy and fun, and there are many kinds in the ruins.

Growing up, she had a close friendship with Ursula, Zodiacus, Aldebaran, Elnath and Alnilam, and she was involved in the two separate instances of death that haunt the group. Aldebaran was defeated in a territorial scuffle and eaten by gryphons, a sight that has given her a fear and distrust of birds in general; Ninlil being there at the time, Zodiacus fixated on her as a cause of the incident. The incident also strained her relationship with Ursula and Alnilam, and with her sister Bizila, who joined them and her for a while in blaming her for the outcome. When the ache subsided and everyone reconsidered things, Zodiacus could not, and challenged her to resolve the issue in the ancient way, and then he was not, and she was.

Elnath who loved him went adventuring to clear his head. Ninlil followed, and they came home with two hatchlings in tow.
