Extremely jumpy, flustered and nearly always embarrassed, some in the lair find Amani difficult to speak to. It seems as if she’s afraid of being judged even by the smallest of dragonets, withholding her opinions and simply going with what others say. Wait— does Amani even have opinions? It doesn’t seem to be that way.

She was abandoned as an egg and sold to be distributed among richer dragons for less than savory motivations. It was only by the grace of the gods that her egg fell off into the grasses of the Grace Forest, where she escaped a fate worse than death.

Amani was not the first of the eggs glided over here and wouldn’t be the last, as many dragons took to the Grace Forests in order to avoid authorities under their illegal devices. Therefore, she was taken in and told how grateful she should be for them potentially saving her life. “You’re not like everyone else,” they’d say, “so be grateful we’d let you live.”

Oklahoma took her in when she was a small child, hoping to shield her from the judgment of the others. By then, though, the psychological damage had been dealt. Amani always felt indebted to Oklahoma for her kindness, hurrying after her and becoming her well-adorned assistant. Amani always felt as if her only purpose was to serve the cause of Oklahoma, and as such, that was the only thing she ever did. She was just an asset, after all, a helper to change.

Until, one day, Oklahoma asked her a question:

“What do you want to do?”

Amani, awestruck, confused, didn’t believe she had a choice in the matter. To be given an option, right there, in front of her.

“I want to help you.”

And even so, that’s all she wants to do, and not just because Oklahoma, but for herself as well. She isn’t a fantastic brewer, no. And she’s still trying to understand the techniques, but she has grown a passion larger than the figurative debt that she started, and she won’t let it go. In fact, Amani finds herself only being confused by Volyno’s words and actions the most, a friend figure to her.
