Volyno came from rather bolstering beginnings. Indeed, his father was among the greatest individuals within the lair when it came to combat alone. Hosting a towering frame even for a Wildclaw, but managing to bring in both speed and stealth despite his towering form, many looked to him as the main protector over the course of two generations. So when he became older and had his very own children, the same was expected among them.

Volyno was one of those children, but of all of the seven, was the one taken the least seriously. His sisters were favored ever since birth for their girthier sizes and naturally fit body types. In fact, some might say that Volyno lost the genetic lottery, earning the natural, pudgy traits more in-line with his mother as a Snapper. As such, he was often ignored among his father. Indeed, it was his sisters who were considered greater than him. He worked with the six of them, and whenever Volyno wanted to be included, he explicitly shut him down.

”Daddy, daddy!”

Volyno tumbled towards his father, back turned towards his eager sisters, with all the weight his four claws could carry. He attempted to come to a halt, only to bump into Father with a small umph. It felt as if his father’s head held creeks and squeaks as he slowly lurched downward.

“Yes?”

Finally, for only the third— no, forth time— Daddy looked at him! His fascinating, purple eyes descended into his own. “Dadd—“

“Father.”

“Father,” Volyno corrected, turning his head slightly. “I want to learn, too! I can do what Madeline can do! See?”

The Snapper got onto his front legs, only to clumsily fall back. He put his front talons in the air. “See! I’m like Madeline! And I can do this like Atha, too—“

“Volyno…”

“And I got the kick right, too! Look at—“

“Volyno.”

“Also I bet you saw Scarlet do this but—“

“Volyno!”

He stopped. His father gave off a soft sigh.

“Let me tell you something that will always be true,” he started. “You aren’t built for the heat of battle. Gardening and being a shield, perhaps, but no battle. It isn’t your spirit; it’s your body. You wouldn’t even be able to keep up with the troops.”

What?

Volyno looked up. His father was serious. His face only scrunched when he was serious. “B-but, Da— Father, I’m just like you! I can fight, just like you!”

Daddy looked up, a snort sounding from his nostrils.

“The only trait you carry of mine are my eyes. You are no son of mine.”

And so he wasn’t.

But that didn’t stop him.

He learned his fair share from other warriors, those who were willing to go against the wishes of his father. If his dad wouldn’t accept him, then he’d find it elsewhere and prove to him that he was more than simply the breed that he was bestowed with. The Snapper fought long and hard to catch up to his siblings in secret, confiding only in Oklahoma, an elder, as to his plans and aspirations. He even took on a Sedge hat in order to hide his eyes, to prove that he didn’t need his lineage to prove his father wrong.

Eventually, though, all of the warriors of the village were called to investigate an upcoming tremor. The elders, besides Oklahoma, thought it was an upcoming attack. Therefore, every qualified dragon, including his sisters and fathers, left. It turned out instead of he signs of a natural disaster, with every one of them being swept by the great forces of nature as they turned towards the hearth.

In a disgusting note of horror, Volyno was the only one left.

He was the sole warrior of the village.

So, for a great part of his years, he has been trying to teach up the next generation, trying to be the hero they deserve, but it’s difficult. Struck by grief at the very reminder of his job but also coated in perseverance, he is a contradiction and mood of confusion. Soon it will be alright…

LESTER (Friends) - “Please don’t go randomly puffing up onto the borders, Lester, friend. You never know what could be a threat, or a force beyond any mortal’s control.”

SORA (Wary) - “The only reason you’re still here is due to your relations. If Lester loses even a lick of interest, do see yourself as forbidden from our land.”

OKLAHOMA (Grandmother figure) - “You don’t understand. I have to patrol our borders in case of a grand emergency. Do stay safe and wait for me.”

AMANI (Friends) - “It’s strange. You don’t talk much even if I incite it. Have I failed as a warrior?”
