Personality:

Backstory:

Solien is an outcast too, and yet his approach to life and reaction to this fact could not be more different from that of Cobalt and her clan. He was the only egg in his clutch, and the day he hatched, both his parents died. This fact, in addition to his strange eyes, led his clan to conclude that he was cursed, and attempt to kill him. He was only saved due to the kindness of the only member of the clan who saw the cruelty of killing an innocent hatchling, and fled the clan with him. However, his savior, a dragon named Ash, died soon later, and he grew up alone, fending for himself. His life has made him cold and harsh—while he doesn’t go out of his way to be cruel, he is firmly of the belief that the world is an uncaring and dangerous place, and every dragon should do whatever they must to survive. He formed his clan not out of personal attachments or a desire for companionship, but out of convenience - he saw that it would be beneficial to him to live with a choice group of others, so he began recruiting members. His criteria for who is accepted into his clan are unusual, and because of this, his clan has a similarly strange, motley makeup to Cobalt’s Outcasts. However, unlike Cobalt who welcomes in anyone unwanted or lost, Solien is more particular about the dragons he chooses, wanting ones who will be useful to the clan and not a liability.
Cobalt asked him once why he wasn’t kinder to those in need, since the only reason he’s alive right now was because he was saved by someone kind as a hatchling. His response was that Ash was a fool who got himself killed because he made the illogical decision to protect a random hatchling, and that he never should have spared his life. Still, though he wouldn’t admit it, the question stuck with him, as it cut to a deeply-buried hurt/fear that he’d been suppressing for years.
Cobalt, always perceptive, has always seen this doubt in him where everyone else saw a cold, composed wall. And so she continues to believe that he’s not beyond redemption, and treat him with kindness despite how it’s repayed. After all, he’s an outcast too, and it’s welcoming in dragons like him that she’s made her life’s mission.

Cobalt
While they disagree about virtually everything, he respects her in some ways for how committed she is to her ideals (one thing they have in common). Despite the fact that they are, or should be, enemies, Cobalt has always treated him with kindness and continues to believe that he’s not beyond redemption. He didn’t want this, and would never admit it—but she is, in some ways, the closest thing he has to a friend.
