Azucar is a rather old mage despite her spry youthful stride. Her offspring have scattered far and wide, and joined the service of various deities. She travels a lot in search of knowledge, investigating old magical events and visiting people she met or corresponds with related to her research.

Personality
Not sentimental, knows her way around social situations. Very interested in acquiring knowledge, but still has a sense of fun.

A Trip to the Hewn City

Azucar was in high spirits.
She could see the mysterious collection of rubble in the distance, just begging to be examined.
Azucar had been around for quite a long time, so she knew a thing or two about hot spots for research. But when a new rumor about the Hewn City having extreme magical potential popped up, she knew something was afoot. After all, every rumor has at least some root in reality.
The wind was screaming in her ears and giving the air a chill. The shadows surrounding the Hewn City grew more ominous as she flew closer. Landing on the edge of the mysterious black soil, she breathed in. The city smelled like mystery.
And bird dung.
Cautiously she stepped forward. She knew that many scholars tended to avoid this place because it was creepy. No one had stayed here longer than ten minutes. She planned to break that record today, and finally unravel the mystery of this place.
Looking around, Azucar started to take notes in her notebook. She noticed that the place wasn`t just made of brick, like other scholars thought. It was made of wood, stone, and metal. The dragons here must have been great architects. There were also mysterious platforms on the ground in seemingly random intervals, some with the Light symbol and some with the Shadow symbol.
Basically, Azucar was in researcher`s paradise.
Being a mage as well as a scholar, she had multiple spells ready to use in case of attack, and an internal timer constantly ticking in her head. She had been here for about five minutes. Halfway to that record, she thought.
She did a bit more examining. Poking at rubble here, taking notes on that thing there, et cetera. She somehow felt like she was wasting time, and just messing around while waiting for something to happen. The timer ticking in her head didn`t help.
Eventually, the timer stopped. She realized she had been here for ten minutes, longer than any scholar before her. This accomplishment spurred her on to research faster and faster, barely paying attention to her surroundings.
Worn out from cataloging and writing, Azucar sat on one of the stone platforms. This had been a fun trip, but she hadn`t really gathered any new information.
When the platform started to shake, she knew she was wrong.
Quickly jumping off, she saw that the other platforms were shaking too. She considered flying away but decided to stay put. Something like this had never been documented before!
The tremors were getting so bad, the already-crumbled walls were falling. Precious artifacts gone in moments…
And just like that, the shaking stopped. All was silent once again, until she heard a voice behind her.
Whipping around, she scanned for the voice, but there was no dragon there. Hearing a voice behind her again, she turned back around. There was no one.
This was bizarre, even for a researcher of magic events. There was nothing like this recorded in the archives. But it would take more than phantom voices to scare her off.
Marching around the ruins and calling “Helloooo? Is anyone there?” yielded no results. Neither did stomping on the platforms. She hadn`t ruled out the possibility of spirits, so she tried a common spirit-invoking spell.
To her shock, it worked.
Smoky gray shapes appeared from behind walls and soaring down from the air. One even burst from the ground. They all swarmed around her and began talking. Azucar`s attempts to make them slow down failed, and she only caught hints of their words: “Abandoned…Lightweaver`s Experiment…No one heard us...Destroyed…”
Now officially scared for her life, Azucar spread her wings, which dissipated the spirits in her immediate area. The rest of them kept talking but didn`t come closer. Azucar took to the air and sped away. She`d had enough for one day. She might come back tomorrow, but she would have to mentally prepare herself first.
When she said she was in high spirits, this was NOT what she meant.

Azucar was in a library, leafing through dusty crumbling sheets of parchment when she first heard the whispers. Rumors and nervous stories about strange happenings over the sea caught at the edges of every gathering and conference, until she was thoroughly distracted from whatever she had been studying, and decided to take up this new avenue of research. She rounded up her supplies, secured passage, and soon was presenting herself and her small team.

"Helloo! So good to meet you, Newnden. I am the Mage Azucar, this is my team, we're very eager to begin! What have you found so far? Have you been in correspondance with any other institutes of learning? Archivists? Oh! How rude, I should introduce my lads properly."

"Here's my research assistant Flaris, he's new but his handwriting is remarkable. Very good sailor too, do you know, its as if he can read the wind like a map."

The young fae nodded quietly, surveying the shoreline and growing crowd. He carried several scroll cases and a lumpy sack. Coiled behind him was a pile of darkness, green eyes flickering furtively.

"And... well, it took some work, but I've managed to convince this one to slither up into the daylight and help us out. Very good at deep dark watery places, this fellow, although not much for conversation. I'm sure he's seen more than we can guess. Isn't that right, Whalefall?"

The spiral's eyes turned from the waves to blink at her, tongue stilling and drawing back into his mouth. In reply he slackened his coils and ran his chin through the sand.

"Well, anyhow, I'm sure we'll all get along marvelously." Azucar beamed at the pearlcatcher and patted her shoulder.

__ My Dear Kulsoh,

__ How lovely to hear from a Nymph of the Garden! I'm not sure the little fellow who handed me your missive was meant to have it in the first place, but how fortuitous it is that we should be able to converse.

__ I am a research mage, studying many things magical, and it is my great pleasure to travel and correspond with so many fascinating minds in all fields as I find them. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts and findings in relation to the effect magic may have on such things as weather. Indeed I would be quite intrigued to exchange notes on that topic or any other that might be found in your library.

__ I am sure such an exchange of research would be of much mutual benefit, both to ourselves and of course Nymph and Dragonkind alike! Do please write again, I shall look forward to hearing from you.

__ Yours in spirit and mind,

_____ Mage Azucar

This spry old mage has been chatting up every dragon in the cafe while waiting in line. She's got a satchel stuffed with scrolls, several event programs and a large parcel marked with the logo of the best runestone shop on the street.

"Hello dear!" she hails the attendant. "A large earl grey please, hot as can be. I've got some reading to do!"
