In a deep dark cave in the dark polluted Marshlands of the south, Shallot hatched a nest of snappers, away from the prying eyes of her new overlords. She wanted her children to have a kind and safe upbringing, unlike what Shallot herself had gone through. So when her children stated to open their small, adorable, white snapper eyes she distracted her mistress Alexandria while her mate Soot scooped up the hatchlings and fled. He was subsequently attacked by harpies while flying past an outpost, mistaken for a hatchling-napper instead of their father. The hatchlings were spread through the lands far and wide. Which is how this root vegetable got to you.

Aubergine was given into the care of Promise, who devoted herself to caring for the Snapper. After an attack at sea, Promise wound up on a pirate crew. Aubergine, by then an adolescent, refused to leave her adoptive mother. Giving a steely glare to any pirate who'd say otherwise. In time she trained with the ship's weather eye and surpassed them, proving an asset to the seafarers in her own right.
