Biography
THE SNOWSQUALL TRIBE
| OSSIA |
If there was one member of the Snowsquall Tribe that truly encapsulated the feelings of unease that often grip strangers beholding the eerie caravan for the first time, it's Ossia. Covered in charred blackened bones and melanistic pelts to give off the outward appearance of a ghostly black deer, her long lanky limbs and rusty croaking voice lean heavily into the uncanny, spurred further by the fact that she was born entirely blind. Her glazed eyes when uncovered stare unmoving beneath her jeering skull, and the fact that she works as a healer with especial knowledge in the workings of disease only adds to the intimidating air of the gangly deer-disguised Tundra. ...And the worst part of it all, is that she revels in the discomfort, cryptically leaning into her observer's tense apprehension with a foreboding otherworldly stare, before throwing them all off with her loud rattling laugh. There hadn't yet been a Tribe when Ossia alongside her mate, Rowell, first met Banagher. Wandering along with the deer herds in the middle of the Snowsquall Tundra, they'd found the monstrous Guardian cradling something very small and still in his claws, the two cautiously drawing closer to find a small Fae that appeared to have gone through quite the ordeal, its wings glistening as if they had just been completely frozen over. In Ossia's possession were her safely guarded jar of embers to start a warming fire, and a pouchful of herbs to heal and restore strength, and with their skills the two deer had been able to revive Rin back to consciousness, and forever take to their grave as the only ones to have ever seen Banagher show a semblance of vulnerability. The deer have been a cornerstone to the Tribe that would come to form ever since, the lifeblood keeping everyone standing through the grueling migrations. Dragons able to get over their nerves come to find Ossia as just as warm and chatty as her hammy mate, if not a bit mischievous, and you can be ensured that once she's had her fun, she will put everything in her life on hold to aid those in her care. The living embers she expertly protects from the elements are a critical possession, ensuring there is always a source of warmth nearby. In their harshest journeys, when the land has become thoroughly embittered by winter, Ossia has been the one saving light keeping everyone from being devoured by the biting winds, rendering her quite possibly the most crucial member of all the Tribe. |

It's amusingly jarring meeting Rowell, ever the charming stag, only to then be greeted with the snarky goblin he's made his lifelong mate. It's clear what has drawn them together for so long, their shared humor, the devotion to their partnered work, the love they have for the snowy world around them. She loves what a ham she's gotten, spoiling her with her favorite winterberries and drowning her in lavish poetic words, to which she graciously repays with her absolutely unromantic sense of humor much to his hysterical laughter. And though her nose and ears have gotten her around just fine, Ossia knows when the road gets difficult, Rowell will always come to her side to be her eyes.

They're just a couple of old farts in love, meeting whatever storms come their way together. Her humor always keeps Rowell humble, and her mate in turn will proudly elevate her before any offput by her appearance, revealing to them the kooky old lady that lies underneath all the bones and tattered pelts. The only regret she has ever felt toward her beloved mate is that she was never able to give him a child, something they both very much wanted, but it seems they've been able to make up for the lack just fine with the many critters they like to pick up and take along with them on their journeys, Ossia currently housing a gentle dumbo rat, while a small ferret constantly sits perched on Rowell's antlers. And much to their joy, they'd eventually get to experience what they never thought they could, after finding a beloved adopted daughter in Fawn. |
