It is not unusual for families to give their children over to the Order. There are many reasons they might feel compelled to do so: because they are pious and wish for their children to learn of the Heralds and become a priest, because they do not want the child and know they will be taken care of, because they cannot feed the child and know their bellies with lie full now, because someone has found a lost and wandering child and hands them over without any other options available. All these are more occur, so much so that all orphans have a well known surname: Lightheart.

Marpessa is a Lightheart, a member of the Saint Order, the domestic arm of the faith. She was a hard-worker from the day she was brought in, deciding she would do her utmost for those who'd made her feel welcome. She has extended her hand in kind to many people over the years and has become one of the core members of the priestesses whose mundane work making sure the Order continues to run as it should saves just as many lives as the paladins. She's well known and very well liked, a thoughtful and patient woman who nevertheless never, ever budges when it comes to making decisions.

There are rumours that she'll be prompted soon, as her superior is about to promoted herself. It brings her joy and some worry. It's being able to see the new children brought it and soothe them, getting to know the younger paladins who grow into elites, calming down crowds in times of panic, it's the day to day work that makes it all worth it. She does worry that if she was elevated past that, she would lose touch with the people.
