When he walks by, the people bow. Some look at him with reverence, some with fear, and some with both. He is one of the upper echelons of the military branch of the Order, chosen from the most elite paladins to be a direct representative of his chosen Herald. His name is Grand Captain Creon, and the demi-god who acts through him is Narses Dei. Narses is known for being the Herald of Temperance. It is this that beats in Creon's veins. If he was ever anything but the calm waters of patience is impossible to discern, for now he embodies the state of mind few ever reach. He never raises his voice, never treats anyone or anything with less than one hundred percent of his attention, and always takes the time to explain concepts to those who may struggle with them. When you hear these things, you may expect him to be wildly popular. And oh, he is of course. He is one of the strongest paladins in the entire city, he is the last desperate hope when all seems lost that somehow descends from the heavens and saves the day. But there is something else. Narses' patience is true to the extreme, but one of the inscriptions that is repeated around his temples proclaim vincere quovis pretio: win at any cost. Narses' templars have historically done the work that no others wish to do because they approach the world with the grim and stoic reality that in order to keep everyone else safe and keep the Shade back, sometimes terrible choices must be made. |
