MAIN THEME - SEEKER OF THE LOST
CAN YOU HEAR THE HOWLING?
_________________
"Maybe you didn't mean to wander here, but you are exactly where you need to be."

STORY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Old settlements crumble to ruin for many reasons: sometimes a location is no longer useful for trade, perhaps food supplies dry up, maybe they're chased out by bandits. Occasionally, a new clan might move in and restore them.

But sometimes they're left abandoned for a good reason.

Those who go missing are often said to stay missing, their souls condemned to wander the corporeal realm forever, caught with things left unfinished and no idea how to get to their next destination. Lost souls end up in the same place as everything else: forgotten places, locations no one thinks to look for anything. It's where you'll find your spare keys, that hand-made mug from your niece, and, importantly, things you didn't even know you were looking for.

Niende is a... caretaker... of sorts. They say they can help you find where you're meant to be (who you're meant to be), they say they can help you figure out what it is your heart aches for, they say they know where your mother's missing necklace is. They say a lot of things.

And yet the fact remains: they do have a lot of lost trinkets, they can often be found when you're feeling a little lost and forsaken, and they sometimes give truly enlightening advice. The rest of the time it's pretty generic bunk, but even that (when said with their trademark calm and melodious voice) often feels more weighty than it deserves.

They're not a seer, not a prophet, not any kind of fortune teller. They just seem to have lived long enough to understand the best way to find personal happiness is to accept that sometimes things don't go how you want and that's okay. Sometimes you need to get a little lost to find your way.

OTHER
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
ORIGIN / Has always been lost. As a child, they were separated from their clan of wanderers (because they have a tendency to wander off) and was never found again. Not that it bothered them. Being lost is where they belong.

Fact / Not as clumsy or as air-headed as their meanderings might make them seem, but definitely is both of those things. It’s very hard to pin Niende down; they’re never where you expect, never there when you want them, but you’ll always turn around and bump right into them. Or they’ll bump into you.

Likes / The canyon’s mysterious ability to be bigger and denser than anyone expects is their greatest fascination. They’re one of very few dragons brave enough to venture into the southern desert and the only one to go very far. They’re also the only one who’s ever come back. They like children and trinkets and long walks through nature or disappearing into the library. Pencil still doesn’t know how they even get in there. They like to bamboozle others.

Dislikes / Roads. They’re fine, mostly, but they have a destination. Where’s the fun in knowing where you’ll end up?

Interests /Pretty much everything. Trinkets they find that they find beautiful, or tools that go missing and make them want to learn more about whatever craft they’re used for, jewels that slip through cracks between family members and fascinate them with imagined stories about where these things came from and how they ended up here. Did this necklace get lost because it was passed too often between sisters? Or because it was thrown in a lake by a spiteful daughter? It’s like getting glimpses into the private lives of others, only Niende gets to make up all the details. Perfect.
