eyes of the abyss
written by Scorisyn Two eggs abandoned in the Plaguelands. A Shadow egg and an Arcane egg. It's a miracle they survived. But the first to hatch was a dark abyss-colored Imperial, in the dead of night. Some hours later, as dawn broke, a blue Pearlcatcher hatched. Aqualia and Aquaris had arrived in Sornieth, and they would make sure the world knew them. They wanted revenge for being cast aside. They first tracked down their mother; it was Aquaris's idea. He had been the one to suggest every murderous idea, and the larger Aqualia followed him, since it was rather convenient for her. And so Aquaris and Aqualia murdered their mother and their unborn siblings, the other clutch, only leaving one. This lead to the eventual hatching of Sagitta. Aqualia was soon to have a little sister. But as she ran with Aquaris, she didn't think about that. Aqualia had now discovered that she had a gift; she could manipulate the shadows. And for Aquaris’s new plan, this was excellent, as he wanted more revenge — on the world for allowing this to happen. She doubted he was that serious, but after five kills -- each easier than the last -- she began to think that he was serious. She did not feel very sorry, but she was annoyed at his failure to think ahead. They'd get caught sooner or later. Aqualia had to run. One night, one of those rare nights when Aquaris was sleeping instead of plotting, Aqualia escaped easily, blending with the night. She slipped through the dark shadows of the Viridian Labyrinth, and at dawn she was crossing through Dragonhome. Of course she saw the Wanted posters pinned up, for two silent killers. One a very large dragon, possibly an Imperial, and the other a smaller dragon. This was all the information they had on the killers. She didn't bother telling them where Aquaris was. Let them search, why should she care? The dark Imperial wound her way through the Scarred Wasteland. She traveled with only a small bewitched cauldron and the ominous shadowy eyes etched onto her scales. And so it was that she caught the attention of one who knew all too well what it was like to flee. Scorpius, a smaller Imperial, though just as experienced as she was. They only spoke once during their brief travel together, sharing nothing. Aqualia quite liked the experience; she enjoyed traveling in absolute silence, and with another dragon who seemed as if he’d be a benefit in a fight. And yet, in the night, he left. This entirely infuriated Aqualia. She hadn't realized that having a companion calmed her. She changed course, going straight for her homeland, the Tangled Wood. The Foxfire Bramble looked impenetrable when she came across it, but she wasn't deterred at all. She plunged right into it. Time seemed not to be of any importance here. She might have been walking for hours, or days. Eventually she found a doorway of bones, leaving her completely unfazed. A network of tunnels stretched out in front of her. That is where Augite, on patrol, noticed her, and presented her to the clan leaders. Aqualia feels the bloodlust even still. She enjoyed killing, for a period of time. Her claws and scales were stained permanently in blood. She didn't even try scrubbing it off anymore. She spent her time in the darkest corners. That all changed rather quickly when she discovered the mercenary group located in the clan, the Nebulans. Leilani noticed the Imperial’s ability, and invited Aqualia into their ranks. She thought she would be able to start over, forgetting all else. And yet the odds were not in her favor, for the dragon next accepted into the Nebulans was Scorpius. She preferred dueling with him, yet every dragon in the Nebulans has heard her express her absolute hatred for him. After the Nebulans had settled down a bit, taking what could only be called a break, Aqualia and half the Nebulans declared a vacation. And so, Aqualia joined a clan nearby, feeling confident that no terrible thing could happen — without her, that is. That is not, in fact, what happened, and Aqualia has somehow ended up taking an extended vacation, becoming the clan leader of equally murderous dragons. She does return to the Nebulans, and attempts to wield any form of power amongst the Void Walkers, but they absolutely do not recognize a leader, only the higher entity of pure chaos. |
