Ivily is an oddly social botanist who loves puzzles and figuring things out. She also likes flowers and such but doesn't have the green thumb to garden so she contents herself to simply taking long walks in the woodlands around her clan, picking wildflowers and jotting down notes. Most think her very odd and try to avoid her but unlike most spirals who would tie themself into knots with the stress of people thinking them odd she simply didn’t mind all the strange looks and whispers she got. In Fact she barely noticed them at all as she was much too preoccupied in her sketches and notes to just hang around with other dragons anyway. But that all changed one day when she met Carmelo....
¥¥¥¥
It was a beautiful day outside, the sun was shining brightly through the thick forest canopy and, at least in her mind, it was the perfect temperature to go for a walk although, even if it had been hailing outside she still would have thought it good weather for a walk so that didn’t mean much. Ivily had just come to her new clan a few weeks ago and was still exploring the little nicks and crannies of the forest surrounding it. She had just come across a new type of flower that—as far as she knew—didn’t grow in the Everbloom Gardens. The flower had a similar structure to a Heliotrope but it was striking blue color. It was very odd for anything in nature to be that bright of a blue so she started to make a sketch of it. She was about half way through her sketch when she heard a humming over by the bushes to her right. She went over to the spot thinking that it was odd that someone would be as far out into the woods as this. As the woods she explored were far from the capital of Oliae, the Great Oak or the Willows and, matter of factly, anywhere else that normal dragons in the clan frequented. Distracted by her thoughts she tripped over a rock and fell through the bushes landing face first in front of a startled looking Fae who was around her age if she had to guess. Bruised from her fall and slightly mortified that someone had seen it she quickly got up, gathered her things and left.
¥¥¥¥
Later that day when Ivily went through the notes and sketches she had done on her walk she noticed one was missing, it was the one of the odd flower that she hadn’t seen before. She didn’t remember leaving anything on the ground in the clearing but she might as well go back and search for it tomorrow, and if she couldn’t find the drawing she could easily find the flower and sketch it again.
¥¥¥¥
The next day when returning to the clearing she couldn’t find the drawing where she had fallen so, she searched the bushes around it for the flower but she couldn’t find it either, so she finally went deeper into the clearing, she circled the clearing slowly drawing nearer and nearer to the center in a spiral. When she finally reached the stump in the center where the Fae had been sitting and as she circled the small stump she found something very interesting. Just above a knot in the back of the stump there was a name carved into the wood, it looked like it had been worn smooth by weather and was kinda faded like it had barely gone past the bark when it had been carved. Because of this the name was hard to read but she eventually made it out to be Carmelo, that must have been the name of the Fae who'd been sitting on the stump the day before. Upon reaching the conclusion that the flower was gone and obviously the sketch was gone to, she left the clearing to search the Library.
¥¥¥¥
After going to her den and washing off the dirt and leaves she had picked up in the woods, Ivily went to town to seek out the library. After being directed to a street housing lots of small shops, Ivily found the building in question without much of a search. It was easy since the sign was a huge open book with a
mint leaf resting on top. In bold fancy letters the sign stated:
M & A's Library, Bookstore, and Café
The building itself was larger than the others but still quite small which surprised her, considering the knowledge and culture she'd seen on her trips to the market and in the streets of her new clan.
Could this tiny shop really be all that the clan had? Well, small or not she made her way toward the structure walking in when she saw that the sign in the door said open. A bell at the top of the door rang out as she walked in and she looked around in bewilderment the space was full, absolutely full of books of all different sides and shapes and, although at first it looked like caos the more she looked she noticed that there was a rhyme and reason to it And after not much time at all she found the Botany section. She wouldn't have expected it but to her surprise the library had quite a large selection of plant books. For example, they had the whole set of known flower encyclopedias from A all the way through to Z. As she searched and admired the shelves with reference she noticed that the shop seemed to have a plethora of books on the Mint plant. Everything from Mint growing to preserving the mint leaves to make them into spices later. But an encyclopedia listing all the different types of Mint leaves and the best conditions to grow them in wasn't exactly what she was looking for. In actuality she didn't really know what she was looking for since she had never seen the flower before. After searching for a while and not finding a book titled 'Weird Blue Flowers You Might Find in the Shrieking Wilds' or anything else like that, she finally decided to get help. She wove her way back to the front of the store where she had seen a desk with a service bell. She went up to the desk and was about to ring the bell when a voice came from behind her. She spun around in surprise, knocking some papers off the desk and sending them fluttering to the floor.
"How can I help you?" The spiral who had been standing behind her asked.
The spiral was shorter than Ivily but with much bigger wings which wasn't unusual since she was tall for her age and didn't have the biggest wingspan and the spiral was obviously older, probubly even older than her mother's age and her scales were a deep brown color and were set in such a way that when she moved it looked like she was made of flowing chocolate.
"How can I help you?" The spiral asked for a second time.
"Oh! Sorry you startled me, I was umm.. was just wondering if you had any books on rare wildflowers? I checked the Botany section and didn't find anything." Ivily mumbled, still a little frazzled by the female spiral's sudden appearance.
"Hmm.. I'll get my husband to help you. He knows more about those things than I do. Ande!" She called to the back of the store.
"Oh and by the way I'm Mocha," she added in a cheerful voice.
"I'm Ivily," Ivily said, now recovered from her shock.
A few seconds later a Fae that looked about Ivily's age came rushing into the room.
"Dad's not here, he went to the market for more spices."
The Fae was obviously her son and Ivily had a nagging feeling she had seen him before but couldn't remember where. It was a memory hidden just out of sight like it was hiding behind a velvet curtain.
"Oh well, I guess then you can help this young lady find what she's looking for." To Ivily she added "This is my son Carmelo he'll help you."
With the name she remembered where she had seen him before, in the clearing with the stump when she had tripped and fallen flat on her face. With that thought she felt her cheeks warm as she followed him down the shelves and hoped that he wouldn't recognize her. As he led her to the botany section he was mostly silent except for the occasional mutter to himself as he looked through the shelves.
