The Solstice Knight

They had been expecting me; they said so and I believed.

Aside from being afflicted by a slightly different festival glamour than the clan's other tundras, Sprucetip had an uneventful Brightshine. She has caught glimpses of the dragons on the clan's border, but, oddly, no scents.

Sprucetip is intrigued by the Sandsurge, but has little time for festivities with the mysterious dragons still unidentified.

Sprucetip is the youngest and least-assuming of the clan's leaders. Naturally quiet and introverted, she is largely a silent member of the council meetings, but her sharp eye, solid memory, and nose for detail mean that when she does speak up, the others listen. She serves as the clan's captain of the guard and also the coordinator of all woodsdrake operations—those who go forth to patrol, hunt, forage, or battle in the border forests—and is commonly found in the forests herself.

A loner at heart, Sprucetip believes everyone deserves the freedom to rove as far from the clan as they desire and still return home there, provided they continue to show some sign of allegiance. She favors self-reliance as much as the clan-founders and her aunt, and will gladly teach hatchlings and newcomers about the edible plants and native animals of the clan's territory. At times, she also leads raids or spying operations on the rival Flights and nearby Beastclan operations.

Nevertheless, Sprucetip's Icy cold emerges when she senses threats to the clan, whether from within or without. Newcomers, guests, and the more notorious rabble-rousers are subject to an intense, cold stare that makes her seem like a tiny gaoler. At other times she seems herself to echo the sinister mockery of Shadow... though never so long that it doesn't seem like an observer's imagination.

Sprucetip is more professional than friendly to most of the clan, outside of a close relationship with her sisters and the now-absent Taxus. She does, however, maintain something akin to friendship with more difficult members of the clan, like Fortune and Hazard. She and Explorer have an unusual relationship primarily based on the odd nocturne's view that they must have something in common if they look so alike.

Craft
Sprucetip tends toward colorful charms made of natural materials she finds on her wanderings. Wood, bone, and colorful stones and shells are strung together on twine or sinew. Some of these, enchanted, she uses as border-markers and wards. While she sometimes integrates metal or crystal into her works, her lack of facility with the material mean these are sourced from the offcuts of other clan-members.

Physical description
Sprucetip is a large, extremely wiry tundra with broad, rounded wings like a forest eagle's. She seems unnaturally light, even for her build. Spines that strongly resemble long, waxy evergreen needles grow down her spine, giving her a strongly piney scent. She has a steady overland gait, unhampered by forest obstacles, and is an agile and capable, if somewhat reluctant, flier. By fluffing or flattening her iridescent fur, she can take on a variety of green and brown tones, and uses this to become surprisingly invisible in forested environments—particularly in the Northern and Southern taigas, where her glittering wings seem like just more snow.

Combat
Sprucetip uses the unusual fighting technique of Anticipation, throwing herself in front of an opponent's blows to gather strength. Primarily a mage, utilizing powerful waves of frost, she is capable of finishing opponents with a quick slash of her claws. She uses a combination of high speed and preternatural agility and traction to overwhelm her foes, forgoing the heavy armor preferred by most practitioners of the style. Her original team included Elkrekeodh and Plaguewinds, but with Cindercone so much larger their clan-leader duties often prevent them from fighting together.

Despite her element, Sprucetip is fully capable of surviving indefinitely alone in the depths of the Volcanic Vents.

Origin
Sprucetip came to Cindercone Clan from their close ally, Northslope, as a hatchling to ease lairspace issues after a tunnel collapse. By the time space had been cleared for her to return, however, she was integrated into the clan, and has remained there since. For a while she was of uncertain position in the clan—trying her hand at various trades but mastering none. She spent much of her time alone in the border forests.

During the clan's first Solstice, Sprucetip became suddenly energized, and worked her way to the ranks of the mightiest warriors. What, precisely, she was seeking is unknown, perhaps even to her, but she heard a voice then on the wind.

Kin
Sprucetip is the daughter of Allspice, Kellinlii's twin brother, and Oreamne, both prominent members of Northslope clan. She likes and respects both of her parents, but is not close, and views Allspice in particular with some suspicion since his transformation. Her deeper ancestry is primarily skydancer and guardian on her father's side, and presumably tundra, with rumors of nocturnes, on her mother's side.

Sprucetip has three siblings involved with Derecho Canyon: Moonfire and Hedysara, her nest-sisters, and Ranger. She has an additional nest-sister, Birchtwig, who has returned to her hatching-clan under the aegis of Lightweaver, and several half-siblings from each of her parents.

Additionally, she is the niece of Kellinlii and Hazard, and aunt to Nightforest, who is the daughter of her older half-brother. Kellinlii's children, Firestone of Derecho Canyon, and Tanbo and Leafblaze of Northslope, are her first-cousins.

Sprucetip has produced several children of her own, solely for utilitarian ends: the transfer-coin for her glittering genes, or the reward from the gods for dedication. One of them, Tarandrus, remains a member of the clan.

Familiar

Sprucetip is bonded with a pair of unusual lizards recently revealed to be immigrated wildlife in Cindercone's territory, and for a time alternated them in familiar-bond. She has allowed Tellikys to continue her bond to one of them, though she showers both with affection and they answer her like well-trained hounds.

As the individual most trusted to deal with weird Shadow elementals—as opposed to Liglanaerr, who would side with them—Sprucetip has been tasked with taming this odd carnivoran.
