Biography
Primary mate: TBD
Rust was found alone and half-starved by Flora as a week-old hatchling during one of her trips aboard an airship through Twisting Crescendo to visit Rythmn in the Cloudsong for some rare herbs to dry for a new, experimental tea. In the hatchling's tiny forepaws he tightly held onto a couple of etched tusks and a clay fertility statue and was drenched in lantern oil with a rusted crown placed strangely on top of the skinny hatchling's head. The hatchling had been placed in the middle of a sort of glyph that had been painted across the small wooden platform that he had been chained to. Everything was held aloft by a small cluster of intricately-made balloons. Flora had been horrified when one of her Coatl travelling companions almost... casually mentioned that the little hatchling had probably been ritualistically raised by his parents to be "gifted" to the Windsinger by a pair of dragons most likely in one of the 2,000-something clans and towns that called the perilous vortex home. Horrified at both the hatchling's condition and his intended purpose in life, Flora was quick to adopt the hatchling; naming him 'Rust' in honor of the ornate, rusted crown that had been on top of his feather-crested head.
Once he was old enough to do so, Rust started helping his adoptive mother out with her tea shop; often by scanning items for customers, handling transactions, re-stocking shelves, assembling tea bundles, and cleaning. Though Rust quickly discovered that he detested the smell of overly fragrant leaves and flowers, he continued to work at SereniTea as a way to earn treasure until he found a career path that spoke to him. Luckily, he didn't have to wait long for inspiration to come knocking- literally.
When Rust was around three years old, a Veilspun named Sycora stopped by SereniTea in order to pick up a couple of custom-ordered tea blends for his mate. As Rust gathered all of the componets of Sycora's order together, the Veilspun switched gears from their previous small talk.
"Do you feel satisfied working here, young Coatl?" The old male Veilspun asked. "Be truthful not for me, but for yourself."
"I love Flora, she's a great mother; but, there's too many strong smells and between you and me, I'm not the biggest fan of intereacting with numerous different Dragons every day. The daily routine also rarely deviates. I think that I need a little bit of excitement and adventure in my life."
"Well, you could be an archeologist for the Norwal Museum if it's adventure and excitement that you're craving. I'm Sycora, the head curator of Norwal's museum and have been since my arrival here. We have a source for rocks and minerals, but we need a source for fossils and other ancient artifacts. If that interests you at all, stop by the museum when you can and we shall talk further."
"Thank you, sir. I'll keep your offer in mind."
By the end of the day, Rust had decided to pursue Sycora's offer and with Flora's full support and ecouragement, stopped by the Norwal Museum the next day to deliver the news to the male Veilspun. Sycora was elated and immediately started Rust on his training.
He was introduced to the Geologist Athame through Sycora and the female Guardian and male Coatl instantly hit it off as friends and even became lovers at one point. Both Dragons' line of work often has them out in the lands of the Earthshaker for an extended period of time; as well as all over the rest of Sorneith.
In his field of work, he often works with Athame (his best friend), Sycora, and even Arlo!
