Biography
List of locations associated with The Crystal Nook
From Nookipedia, the lore encyclopedia
This is a list of the various locations associated with The Crystal Nook. Most are concentrated in the kingdom's home region, though some out-of-flight locations have become significant.
Starfall Isles
The Starfall Isles, once low rolling plains and small islands lined with glimmering shores, were transformed into a skyline of crystalline peaks and listlessly rotating earth streaked in bolts of pure magic. The Arcanist spends his time within the candlelit halls of Observatory at Focal Point, cataloging the stars in wax-laden archives and scrying runes to enchant the very world around him.
The Crystalspine Reaches
Hoverview Vale
The Starwood Strand
The Observatory
The Forbidden Portal
The Sea
The Nematic
Southern Icefield
The massive, frosted expanse of the Southern Icefield once enveloped the entire lower hemisphere, rivaling the size of the continents watching from above. The Icewarden and his brood now resist northern threats from the glacial prisons that they maintain at the bottom of the world. This harsh landscape has embittered generations of its denizens over time, lending to increasing hostility towards outsiders as the landmass continues to shrink.

This mighty mountain range once stood straight and tall; the peaks now curve inward, pointing directly toward the Observatory and creating a concave and sheltered realm for younger flights to nurture their nascent powers and to grow accustomed to the warping energies of the land. Dragons mine the peaks, using their fledgling magic to send large plinths of crystal to their patron. An otherwordly surge in magical energies have caused them to lurch abruptly in recent times. |
- Historical Cave System
The founding location of the clan, began by the progens Arjibi and Hydra. It was a nook in one of the mountains, then excavated into a large cave system which was big enough for sizeable imperials to navigate. It is now abandoned as a dwelling, but protected as a heritage site. - The Lighthouse
Kept by Sentinella, it was erected in celebration of the advancements as a clan.- The Nematic home port
Where the clan's ship, the Nematic, makes port.
- The Nematic home port
- The Coral Reef
An environment protected by Nereus.
Hoverview Vale
Soaring delicately above the Crystalspine Reaches, this medley of lush floating isles is often said to have been the origin of the region's name. The landmasses here are held aloft by a steady force that seems determined to pull the surrounding area into the heavens above. The dragon clans that dot these hovering chunks of earth are said to have the most incredible views in the world, with some even looking down upon the skybound lairs of the Cloudsong. |

The Starwood Strand
To stand inside of the Star Wood at night is be embraced by an infinite universe. Along this former shoreline, the trees stretch skyward and grow taller than anywhere else. At night, they blossom and reveal millions of flowers winking in the moonlight like so many stars. It is a place for inspiration and thought. Many dragons discover their genius here, but many more become lost to the dangers hidden in its beauty. |
- Mainland Airport for The Sublime
A clearing for the clan's plane to land on mainland Sornieth.
The Observatory
Sitting atop the highest reaches of Focal Point, the Observatory stands lonely, its Eye of Many Lenses staring deep into the darkest quadrants of space. The Arcanist broods by candlelight within as his four frail arms feverishly scribble the knowledge of the cosmos into ancient tomes of countless pages. Forbidden words rolling off of enchanted tongues echo through the the archaic structure bound in runes formed through years of applied magical sciences. |
- Crystal Nook Embassy
An area for diplomats from other lands to meet with representatives from the Crystal Nook. There are hundreds of embassies belonging to other Arcane clans crowded at the base of the Observatory.
The Forbidden Portal
A shattered landscape holds ancient terrors that have been reawakened by the foolish. An ancient portal from a forgotten age has been reinscribed with draconic symbols, unleashing creatures from beyond into Sornieth. |
- The Forbidden Circus
Found near the Forbidden Portal, the ringleader began to collect the strange, alien creatures surrounding it, and made attractions out of them. The attention brought other dragons who were equally as strange, and the band of dragons and beasts formed a circus.
The Sea
The Nematic
Maintaining a new allegiance to the Arcanist and the clan, this group of water dragons, almost as if in a sub-clan, have formed their own ship's crew. Their ship, the Nematic arrives in other lands by port, and is another means of gathering, trading, and profiting. The word nematic itself is an adjective referring to a state of liquid crystal, representing the crew's dual nature of water and association with the Crystal Nook. |
- The Nematic
The Crystal Nook's merchant ship, yet the crew self-identifies as Pirates. In exchange for a Letter of Marque, allowing them to carry on in their lifestyle with little restriction, they must act as a legitimate merchant ship for the Nook and bring resources to the kingdom.
Snowsquall Tundra
The only pockets of what can pass for wildlife now huddle themselves into the brush of the tundra, which blankets the heart of the icefield. Dense evergreen forests skirt the mountain ridges, and many dragon clans huddle in wicker caves and huts nestled deep in the trees for the better part of each year. |
- Peculiar's Soul Tree
A special tree that shares its life force with a dryad who is more tree than dragon, and will protect the tree at any cost.
