When that thing of false smiles
And a thousand gleaming eyes
Stared down.
It whispered its promises.
“Knowledge is power”
It had said.
“The power to escape your fears.”
He asked what it wanted in exchange.
It simply laughed.
“Nothing much”
It said.
“Stories. I want you to find them for me.
Draw them out. Record them.”
And so his mind was filled with that false God’s voice
The constant incessant whisperings
Of endless knowledge.
Along with an insatiable hunger for more.
To hear, to see, to behold.
Ť̸̩͔̬͎̙̆̈́͂̀e̸̘͙̾̑̈́̒͜͠l̴̞̐̀̕͝l̴̨̲̻͉̣̄̂͘ ̷̣̈͐ͅm̴̨͚̱͓̪̈́͒̀̋e̴͍̗̩̩̟͑̈̃͋̎.

And his voice was laced with the echo
Of his ever-watching God.
