Biography
The Conventional Al-Chemist
Younger brother of Wishbone, Neon is pretty much his complete opposite. Where Wishbone is reckless with his luck and puts faith in gambling, Neon uses his luck sparingly, usually to stabilize experiments before they blow the Clan off the cliff. Also, the sheer disorganization of Wishbone's casino bothers Neon a lot. Neon's a very tidy dragon, despite appearances, and dislikes his lab being messed with. Daedalai's guarding of the labs is much appreciated. When not obsessively working on his latest project, Neon likes taking swims in the cove and chatting with Coastal who he absolutely has a squish on, though he denies all allegations of feelings. Did you know Coastal loves talking sea acidity, or wave physics, or clownfish lifecycles, or... ("You absolutely like her, lil bro." "I do not, Bonehead!")
Unlike Jagao, Neon does actually useful alchemy, synthesizing chemicals, metals, and cleaning agents for use within the Clan. He makes paints for Sharif, pure elements for Jagao the Lazy and Darwin, baking sodas, powders, and vinegars for Starbuck and Freesha, vats and vats of cleaning and antiseptic chemicals for the Healers' Hut, and extra chemicals and elements of all kinds to sell at the Market.
Despite his... eccentric looks, Neon runs a tight lab, following all safety practices and experimental procedures to the spirit. Any problems with his products are all buyer-induced or because magical energies in the area messed with the lunamirium in the middle of a reaction again, Lightweaver dang it!
Oh, did he mention the new element he discovered? It's called lunamirium, in honor of Moonmirror the Shade-construct donating enough Shade material for Neon to find the element they're made of! No other scientist has been able to study it so closely or for so long (as far as they know...), because Shade-constructs are usually malicious, plus their bodies dissipate too soon after death to give much time for study.
Lunamirium is an extremely ephemeral, bondable element. When bonded with anything except more lunamirium, it literally transforms into (atoms and neutrons and all!!!) the other element until reunited with sufficient amounts of lunamirium. When on Sornieth, though, it can't amass sufficiently to draw out hidden lunamirium in the environment. Only conscious, living Shade-constructs can bring hidden lunamirium out of hiding and add it to their form. This hiding property allows Shades to mimic and hide on Sornieth as well as they do, and the drawing-out of ambient lunamirium is how Moonmirror mimics Arcane magic!
