Despite being a ghoul with close to the highest possible contamination levels, Melty is generally doing fine. Yes, his wings may be corroding away, but he has a good life. He’s settled down with Ulcer, has a couple hatchlings, and a steady job working in Meatbag’s restaurant. Certainly not the life you’d hear from what is practically a walking outbreak.

Either the residents of Corrosionius are immune to his disease or he’s some bizzare neutralized ghoul in disguise, because no one around him has caught his contagion. Yet, anyways. Not even from the food he helps prepare with Meatbag. Which, questionable decision to employ an actively decaying disease at your restaurant, but, this is the Plague Flight after all. So maybe Meatbag’s decision was pretty good.

All in all, Melty is definitely a variation of the norm. While most ghouls hailing from the ice flight would spend their days shutting down dragon’s immune systems and systematically killing them off with their diseased bodies, Melty spends his cooking up a mean steak or taking the occasional tour of Corrosionius and its outskirts.

It was midday in the restaurant. Melty was bussing tables as he usually did, but this fae was being particularly stubborn about accepting the food he was trying to give her.

“For goodness sakes- what are you?! You’re- you’re dripping! I refuse to take this food. I’ll probably get contaminated!” Her claws were dug slightly into the pine wood table in front of her. She looked legitimately terrified.

“Ma’am, you must be new around here. Plus, I’m not going to contaminate your food. I haven’t even been preparing food today.” He gave the plastic bags adorning his wings a pat. He had noticed the edges of his wings corroding more than average today, so in lue of not getting drips of his flesh everywhere, he had wrapped some bags around them. In an attempt to rescue the table, he grabbed her hand to release her claws. She did release them- but only because she was reclining in pain.

“What have you done?! My claws- they’re melting!”

Oops. Getting a closer look at the fae’s eyes, he realized they were a deep brown, not red. Of course a dragon from the Earth Flight wouldn’t be resistant to his corrosion.

“I, uh, suggest you get medical help right away.”

The fae’s brown eyes turned to him, wide as a bug. The corrosion was beginning to spread up her arm. “I, what?”

“Um, medical help. You might not last long if you don't get it.” Now Melty was beginning to freak out. Had he just killed a dragon? He had vowed to be different from the other ghouls, and yet now he was just the same as them. Worse, even- he wasn’t serving a necromancer.

“I’m a doctor.” A voice piped up from behind them. A large Spiral walked over, assessed the damage, then before anyone could say anything whipped out a butcher's knife and sliced the fae’s lower arm off. She shrieked and fainted.

“Better alternative to dying of whatever you have.” He motioned to Melty’s wings before returning to his steak.

“Meatbag!” Melty called, waiting for the ridgeback to emerge from her food preparation area. “Meatbag, we’ve got a casualty!”

She finally came out, already drenched in blood. “She okay?”

Melty nodded, then shrugged. “I don’t know. I accidentally touched her hand and then that Spiral over there cut her hand off.” He picked up the still corroding hand to show Meatbag.

“Ah. Better get her to a real doctor. I’ll carry her, since evidently you’d do more harm than good.” The ridgeback began hauling the fae out of the restaurant over her shoulder, with blood still gushing out of the nub where the fae’s arm used to be.

Melty stared after them for a bit before returning to his regular job.
