a b o u t . Sunfire is a soul in a state of constant transition, never quite knowing who he is or where he fits in, largely because he can't stop lying to himself. Every interaction he has is marked by a sense of charisma and bravado he doesn't feel. He has the bearing of a lord, the grace of a born athlete, the soft smile of a model, the gently suggestive humor of a courtesan, and the confidence of none of them. How can he connect with someone else, anyone else, when he can't even offer honesty to himself? The only thing he knows for sure is that he's not strong enough to turn inward and look. Sunfire can't bear the thought that he's actually as insubstantial as he feels. From the beginning, even before his birth, Sunfire was destined to be beautiful. His parents' arranged marriage was meant to produce beautiful babies, and beautiful babies it produced; every one of Sunfire's siblings was a beautiful rose gold treasure, and Sunfire as a male Imperial was among the most valuable and beautiful of all. Beauty was all that was expected of Sunfire, so beautiful is all he became. The little princeling had no idea how empty his upbringing really was until he left the nest. His empathy had been blunted, his ego had been inflated, and his heart had been ill-prepared for the realization that nobody had ever loved him in any way that mattered. The loneliness, even in crowded rooms, gnaws constantly at Sunfire's heart and soul. He sees everyone else living their lives, fulfilling their dreams, loving each other and picking each other up. He knows it's possible, he knows he needs it, but he doesn't know if it's possible for him. Sunfire was always taught that his worth lay in being beautiful and bringing joy to others, so that's what he tries to do. It doesn't get his needs met, though; having one's own needs was ugly in his eyes, and everyone else didn't need their decoration weeping in front of them. Sunfire's soul is screaming out for help. He has no idea how to translate that into asking for help, and sometimes, the helplessness and despair threatens to swallow him whole. Luckily for him, though, the dragons of Clan AXQU are a lot more empathetic and kind than their blunt demeanor would suggest. He's got people around him who can see his inherent value: his kindness, his desire to do right by others, his determination, his stubborn desire to be better, his love of nature, and his unique way of seeing the world. Even though he doesn't know how to see it yet. Even though he's too scared to look just yet. He's got friends, even if he doesn't know how to recognize them yet. Sunfire will figure it out eventually. He's extremely fortunate to have loved ones willing to keep him safe until he does. Even if he can't see that yet either. |
