 Velvet's parents were Holden of the Shadow flight and Malvolia of the Ice flight. She was born in a venerable lair hidden in the Foxfire Bramble.

Both of her parents were bards, and each had previously lost a mate to the same wicked enchanter, who turned them into harps. It was strange, seeing Tiana and Aelfdene sitting in various places around the lair, but Velvet knew never to touch them, especially Tiana.

Her moody, sullen father and her emotionally distant mother drove Velvet to leave home, and she came to the Star Wood Strand, attracted by the stories of the beautiful flowers and trees.

Here she met Hex, and they had two hatchlings, both of whom were exalted eventually. They aren't currently together, but remain friends. Velvet is a part-time music teacher.
