It looks nice multi-lined as well, if the quote is long." ▰▰▰_____________________________________ -Denver's mother's family are a long line of accomplished Necromancers, so it was barely even a question of whether they would attempt the trials when they came of age. Although they passed the first two trials with flying colors, they faltered in their ability to recall their infection. No matter, said their family. With your family history, once you prove yourself a bit you're sure to be selected by a Necromancer's Necromancer, perhaps even a high-ranking member of the Council, and achieve great heights. -Denver was not taken into the entourage of a Councillor. Denver met Callahan, a newly minted Hunter about their age, when she was looking for an assistant on a hunt for a ghoul, and, enticed by the money she was offering and the excitement with which she talked about the chase, agreed to join in. Perhaps this was the foothold they needed to prove themself to a Councillor; they certainly were not going to let this crazy Pearlcatcher who was barely a few months older than they were boss them around, regardless of which trials she had passed. What was supposed to be a one-time job turned into an official offer from a Necromancer to a Necroservus. Denver couldn't quite understand why -- did Callahan enjoy that they had put their foot down and refused to let her talk down to them? Did she just like having someone to argue with? Were they actually useful to her? But she was offering companionship, however irritating, and, most importantly, a Necromancer's patronage; Denver was beginning to give up hope that a Councillor would notice them and take them on. -Denver grew to like Callahan, despite their initial annoyance with her. She was loud and cocky, for sure, but she also seemed to be softening up around them a bit. Actually, she was kind of sweet, in a rough, unpracticed and awkward way. She didn't seem to feel like she had to be as abrasive and arrogant around them, and she was honestly, maybe, sort of pretty. Maybe there was something more there than the relationship between a Necromancer and Necroservus, and, in truth, there was. -They're a bit quieter and less aggressive than their partner, although they're able to put their foot down and state their opinions with a practiced ease and finality that makes others rather more inclined to listen to them than to her. Like Callahan's skull mask, Denver's antlers are from a tracked and vanquished prey, in this case a rogue Pronghorn infected by an Effluvial Crow. Denver is one of the few dragons who can wield a heavy cleaver with even more dexterity and skill than their Necromancer partner, even despite how large it is compared to them. Their plague, which causes burningly high fevers and disorientation, may have few effects, but they're powerful ones; the fever and delirium it causes can be used to great effect to slow down targets, as well as to temporarily neutralize the virulency of a dangerous ghoul by denaturing its viral proteins. -Ever since they were sent to Askarel Port to deal with another ghoul, Denver has begun to worry about their partner. Something about this particular case seems to be wearing on her in a way that none of their previous targets have. It's not that Callahan has qualms about capturing and taking in what apparently used to be a hatchling; there's something deeper she seems to be concerned about, and Denver has had to begin reminding her to eat and sleep. For Denver's part, they have concerns of their own about the hastily painted red sigils they and Stolas have been finding at sites where the ghoul was seen and then left from, and in the lairs it's decimated. It's not a sigil they've ever seen before; they know all of the old Plague ritual symbols and the symbols of the Necromantic orders. Who's been painting them, and why, and is someone else also tracking their quarry? |
