Biography
The Mage
Tarnse was born from the strike of a meteor to the crystals of the Starfall Isles. The fire that rained down from the sky met the magic of the earth and formed a delicate eggshell. From this egg Tarnse hatched, and began a life that ventured far from what he would have ever foreseen.
Tarnse met Ran in the middle of a fight, when he saw her thrown to the ground and on the brink of defeat. He had always been a good mage, and yearned to know all there was to know about magic and its uses. Though mainly gifted in healing, he knew how to fight when needed. He had seen her earlier refusing to hurt a child for money, and thought she seemed interesting. Most mercenaries he had seen had no honor or sense of morality, so she stood out. When he saw her fighting her target, a huge man with heavy armor and no mercy, he intervened on behalf of the honorable thief.
He called forth the magic he had been gifted at birth, and threw the man far, far away where he could not hurt them. He saw true gratitude in Ran's eyes, and began a partnership with her for lack of anything better to do. They formed a clan by accident, as they picked up more and more outcasts and oddballs and gained members with unseen powers. As their clan grew in strength and size, they settled in the Starwood Strand, in an area that they did not realize was a gateway between multiple dimensions. Some of the members of the clan are those who fell through and could not return home, and some are travelers who left their homes in search of adventure, or a better life.
Tarnse acts as the clan's healer, constantly replenishing the fighters' energy during battle. He is intelligent and calm, but tends to lose his temper in any altercation in which Ran is involved. He is very protective of her and trusts her and believes in her morality far more than any other member of the clan does, aside from the longest standing members: Leafsong, Cassiopeia, and Alexandrite. Most of the clan sees Ran as a rather heartless mercenary, and only trust her because they trust Tarnse's judgement, which they believe to be sound. The truth is that Ran isn't completely heartless, but lacks more empathy than most: the reason Tarnse can't see it is that he is even more heartless than she is.
Ran is the one who runs the clan and cares about the order of her society, but Tarnse only really cares about her. The other clan members believe him to be kind because he is quiet and speaks softly: they think that his kindness is silent, but the truth is that the only thing beneath the surface is rage. He is neither kind nor cruel: he is completely indifferent.
The only person in the clan he cares about other than himself is Ran, and though she was a mercenary and an assassin, she cares far more than he does about her clan. Tarnse's life is entirely dedicated to Ran, and he would betray the rest of the clan in a heartbeat if it meant he could stay by her side.
Level 25: 2/25/17, Hippalectryon, Amber Gulper, Rhodochrosite Crane, and Windcarve Fugitive.
