Formerly Windguard, now Deathweaver clan leader. Champion of Decay.

Originally a child of the Windsinger, Aeryn cannot remember her parents. She barely remembers being a hatchling, her oldest memories being those of a young adult, scraping out an existence in the Reedcleft Ascent. A loner from a young age, Aeryn did not fit the typical communal, friendly Wind Flight archetype, internalizing her perceived abandonment and shunning the company of other dragons, until she met Mossmere. The older, battleworn dragon refused to let her eke out a life alone on the Ascent and persuaded her to join him in his travels.

Because Aeryn was not raised by a Guardian clan, she knew nothing of the rite of passage that is the Search until she met Mossmere, who completed his Search by bonding with Aeryn, taking her as his Charge.

Aeryn is gruff and unapologetic about it, preferring tough love to coddling. Her leadership of the clan is loose and based on respect; she does not lay down any law unless it is a matter of life or death. She welcomes free movement within the clan, not requiring any dragons to remain with the group at large to be considered a clan member. The Windguard, as she says, are a free clan of loremasters, traders, scholars, and misfits to whom she and her mate provide safe haven, not iron-fisted military rule.

One night, deep within dreaming, Aeryn experienced what she now considers the origins of her Search. A shadow of bubbling mist came to her and spoke of Death and Disease as living entities, truths of the world unavoidable by any creature, beings that should be revered and worshiped as Enders of Life. She was instructed to journey to the Scarred Wasteland and become a Champion of Decay, devoted to the Rot that consumes all living things. When she awoke, Aeryn was incensed and told Mossmere of her dream immediately. He confirmed it as similar to his own Search's calling and told her to consider the message before making any rash choices.

Night after night that she waited, mulling over the dream and its implications, visions troubled her sleep of her scales sloughing off into the dust, her eyes melting from her skull, eggs she had lain crumbling into deadly spores that choked her. Prevented from restful sleep, she again consulted her mate, who told her he believed it was time for a decision.

Aeryn announced the move the Wasteland the next morning, offering anyone who wished to leave the chance to do so before they began their journey. Many did leave, finding the idea of journeying into the one place the clan had avoided altogether in their travels horrific. Some claimed it was bad for business and packed up. Others, the loyal among them, those who saw strength in Aeryn and Mossmere's leadership, remained to travel with the clan, happy to seek new adventure in a strange land.

Both Aeryn and Mossmere were able to transcend their Guardian forms and become Ancient Gaolers using the same method that Aberrations use to reform themselves in the Wyrmwound.

After years of nomadic life, Aeryn and Mossmere both agreed to join their old friends and eldest daughter in hibernation. For Aeryn, this is a time of deep meditation during which she will examine her personal values and how they align with those of the clan. She leaves her eldest waking daughter, Rynna, in charge as her successor until she returns from the lair with the answers she needs.
