Biography

O R I O N

Uh-oh, looks like this celestial noodle wandered a little too far from his home lair (OtakuTrash, 571242), and now he's off to see the world! If you ever feel the urge to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him home instead, or to the 'Dragons Off to See the World' thread, here. If you don't want another traveler in return, you can also drop him off at the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub!

Orion likes stars. After all, he is a fallen one. So put down some stars and planets for him to visit!

OtakuTrash: Mercury! It has a lot of pretty clouds!

Orion arrived in the Windswept Plateau's Millmeadows just after the sun had set. He was awed by the clear skies above him and knew instinctively that they were directly related to the strong winds and clean air of the area. It's beautiful here, he thought. Even if it's my true desire to visit the Arcanist's Observatory, this is absolutely beautiful.

"Hello there, little one. Are you a traveler?"

Orion turned and saw a pretty teal Veilspun hovering nearby. She wasn't much bigger than him, but she was older, and there was a wisdom in her electric blue eyes. He answered, "Yes, I am. My name is Orion."

"That's a lovely name. Mine is Nevaeh."

She offered him refreshment at the clan's dining hall, which he accepted, but when she offered him a place to sleep indoors, he refused. "I prefer to sleep outdoors, beneath a blanket of beauty. I hope you understand."

She nodded sadly. "You are a star, are you not?"

"I am, but a fallen one. Sleeping outside... it's the closest I can get to my former self."

They were both quiet for some moments before Nevaeh said gently, "I too am a fallen star, little one, so let me give you some advice. I've spent many days of my life wishing to go back, constantly looking over my shoulder to the past I've left behind. But there are as many beauties before you as there are behind you, if you allow yourself to but see them. If you do, you may just see the sun rise."

Belief: I think just floating around in space would make me feel at home.

Orion pondered Nevaeh's advice as he continued his travels, but when he arrived at the Sunbeam Lanternhouse, his rumination was interrupted, for he met his half-brother Tariel.

They had almost nothing in common. Though he too preferred the night to the day, it was for the practicalities of nocturnal hunting, and he had no interest in the heavens beyond their impact upon his preparations. He was pragmatic where Orion was idealistic, serious where Orion was passionate.

How, how can we be related? Orion wondered.

Tariel didn't care to answer the question. Alienated, Orion retreated to the comfort of the inn's Meadow where he could stargaze in peace. There he met a fellow fallen star, Lilac. In her company, Orion was able to let go of some of the bewilderment his half-brother had stirred up before it could turn into resentment. Still, he thought it best to move on.

sgkat: I may not feel at home anywhere, but Polaris is a constant in the sky. If I remember that and navigate by it, I will never be lost.

Orion continued his travels with Lilac. Her quiet and nonjudgmental demeanor was a comfort to him.

Stargazing at the Oculus of the Eleven was a challenge. The magical energies of the area create a unique localized phenomenon. The view of the heavens ends up twisted with faint colors and patterns that look different to everyone who sees them. Some say that the colors and patterns you see are an omen of your future. Lilac had her doubts, but Orion continued to stare deep into the patterns that he couldn’t quite focus on. Without meaning to, he slept.

He woke up with a fleeting sense of deep gratitude. But for who? Or what? He couldn’t answer that. Perhaps he would learn the answer later.

Festivoog: I love meteor showers, especially the ones in the winter. It's more challenging to stay out in the cold, but the clear view is worth it.

Orion and Lilac traveled to a quiet clearing in the forest, where they both agreed stargazing would be excellent. Greeted by a skydancer named Axolotl, who told them they were in the Fount of Travelers and welcomed them.

During their time there, Orion would occasionally catch a young pearlcatcher eyeing him with interest. After a little while, Lilac excused herself for a little while, and the pearlcatcher jumped at the opportunity to speak to Orion alone. "Is that veilspun your girlfriend?" The young lady batted her eyelashes at him.

"No. She is my friend. We are both fallen stars. It is a hard commonality to find."

"Fallen stars?" The girl gaped at him. "That's why you're so dazzling!"

"Yes, young one. And very ancient, though not as much as Lilac, my friend. Do you have any other questions about me being a fallen star?"

The girl looked sheepish, obviously sensing his dismissal. "No. Good day." She gave a wobbly bow.

"Good day to you as well."

Lilac and Orion left not long after.
