Melaina's parents were Daeorm the Skydancer of the Shadow flight, and Kimuri the Guardian of the Light flight. She was born in an ancient lair on the steps of the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. Her mother had been one of those brave enough to venture through the Moonportal into their realm after the keystone had reactivated the sister portals, and was captured almost instantly by a Shadowguard set up for that exact purpose. She was taken to the Forum, where it was thought that the Shadowbinder would deliver judgment, but instead the deity's response was of complete disinterest, though she did compliment Kimuri's obsidian scales and cornflower koi. Puzzled, they decided to keep her as a prisoner anyhow, and eventually she met Daeorm. Melaina and her two sisters, Nainsi and Yuri, grew up playing on the steps, and running rampant through the crumbling temples surrounding the Forum. By the time she was older, however, she began to grow tired of the murky shadows and the piles of junk, and decided to leave home. Melaina travelled south to the Icefields, where she made enemies very quickly with the Gaolers. She still wears the chains that they tried to bind her with as a symbol of her indomitable will and raw power. She came to the Starfall Isles where she met Bloodbane. Attracted to his cunning and ruthlessness, she bore him two hatchlings, Calcedonius and Straton. Calcedonius remained at home, but Straton was exalted. Later on, when Bloodbane had seemed to lose interest in her, she had a brief affair with Faranduil that also produced two hatchlings, both now exalted. She remains in Bloodbane's service, however, as one of his loyal guards, alongside Massacre. Melaina is a formidable opponent in battle, fighting as a tank berserker.
