Matilda

Matilda's parents were Altair the Obelisk and Melanie the Skydancer, both of the Shadow flight. She and her three hatchmates were born in an ancient lair near the Thorndark Altar. For generations, her clan had observed the moonlit ritual of tossing unwanted objects into the all-consuming void of shadow that had once filled the now visible ampitheatre. Now, the place was a source of a difference kind of menace, as the long forgotten Sunportal had once again been activated, creating a doorway that led directly into the Lightweaver's domain. The elders who had once overseen the ritual now appointed guards to watch the portal and keep their enemies out. Matilda knew that something of importance had occurred. Even the Veilspun were angered by the portal's reactivation. Still, she couldn't help feeling like this whole thing was a bit of an overreaction. So what if some dumb Ridgeback had found the keystone and opened the portal? What was it to her? She wasn't afraid of a door. She was a witch, after all, and an accomplished one for her age. Her speciality was potions and brews, though she wasn't terrible with runes and incantations. Just let those glittering fools try to invade her home. She'd never even need to step out of the shadows. Still, she was growing bored with waiting around for something to happen. Her talents were being wasted there, when she could be doing so much more! And so one night, when the moon was full, Matilda packed her bags and made for the one other place where her skill set could come in useful: the Starfall Isles.

She fell in with Bloodbane's clan, finding kindred spirits there. She had five hatchlings with a Mirror named Orion, now exalted, and then set her sights on the Spiral, Finn.

She knew Finn would have nothing to do with her, however, and so Matilda brewed up a special tea and added a secret ingredient of her own devising. Then, she invited the unwitting Spiral in for a nice cuppa.

Once properly under her spell, Matilda tricked Finn into believing she was Harlequin. Another five hatchlings resulted from this union, and though Finn hates Matilda for what she did, he remains in contact with one of the boys.
