Asphodel sits curled around a nest of golden grass, three glass-like eggs tucked into the curve of her belly. At her side, Marjoram rests his scarred head on her shoulder, watching their first clutch intently. The pale eye of a full moon bathes them with its light.

"Should they have hatched by now?" Marjoram asks quietly.

A light laugh escapes the mother-to-be. "Give them time, dear." She leans her head up to nuzzle him affectionately, murmuring in his ear. "There's nothing to worry about."

Less than half an hour later, the first egg begins to rock and splinter. Marjoram reaches for his helmet, but Asphodel stops him gently. Without a word, the Imperial slowly rests the mask in the sun-stained grass and returns his gaze to his hatching children, face soft.

The pair watches as the other two eggs begin to crack. Light chirps and growls can be heard from the delicate eggs as more and more of their surface begins to break. Finally, the first egg shatters into a fine golden dust, raining down serenely on the dark hatchling within. Their hard scales reflect the radiance of the moon, making their first moment one ethereal and beautiful. Asphodel smiles as Marjoram lifts their first child from the dust of their egg, their eye-like markings so similar in color to his own opalescent scales.

The next two children emerge soon after, each just as brilliant as the first. They go to Asphodel, one snuggling into the mother's herb-scented mane as their father dazzles them with glittering breezes of Ice magic while the other curls against Asphodel's chest. The new family is quiet for those first few minutes, simply taking in the wonder of one another, of the happiness of a couple's first children. Before the full moon edges too far away, however, Asphodel reaches for a deep indigo rucksack that had laid undisturbed by the next since it was first constructed, pulling loose its leather cord.

Marjoram gathers their first two children in his paws, careful not to let any heads or tail hang too precariously, and sets them before her. She draws a card for their first child, the son with eyes of yellow and blue and green, and sets it before his tiny talons. "Three of Wands." Asphodel murmurs. The child isn't watching her, but instead has been captivated by the northern horizon. Towards the sea. His mother smiles.

The second child, a daughter of red and blacks and blues, is watching Asphodel, however. She watches as her mother puts a card at her paws, and chirps curiously at it. "Queen of Cups." Asphodel announces. "Yours is a Queen too, right?" Marjoram remarks. "Queen of Pentacles?" Asphodel nods, warmth growing in her chest. Their second child reaches for her father and chirps plaintively, so up she goes. Leaving the third, the daughter tucked against her mother's chest.

Asphodel cranes her neck back to see her, careful not to disturb the hatchling's slumber as she lays a card at her side. "Nine of Cups." She whispers, a smile warming her face.
