H I S T O R Y Thiết Đăng was among the tens of young dragons who came to the Camp in hopes of being part of the prestigious Imperial Army. He came from a long line of soldiers who had devoted their lives to the flight’s longevity, his pulsing blood yearning for all the glory on the battlefield, yet he was held back by his Diviner side. What the dragons around him considered deviant, however, Thiết Đăng quickly recognized as untapped potential. Under General Flamewing’s guidance, he built up his combat skills, resilience, and proficiency in both swords and spears, despite being a meek and easily frightened young dragon. As Thiết Đăng’s Awakening Rite approached, the last thing he expected was a letter from his hometown. That very night, he immediately left the Camp and headed home. It is said that when he arrived, what awaited him were a ransacked cottage, an empty weapon shack, and the bodies of his slaughtered parents. As if heaven had come crashing down on him, Thiết Đăng stayed at his destroyed shelter, searching for an answer. The governor refused to help him, and all his neighbors could provide was that a group of bandits had chosen his family simply because of their reputation as esteemed soldiers. Beaten by a tragedy just as painful as it was nonsensical, Thiết Đăng retired from Torchlight Camp, wishing to seek justice by himself. Concerned for his sư đệ sudden departure, Huỳnh Hỏa went to Thiết Đăng on her own accord, trying to recruit him back. Days later, she left in a huff. I scarcely know how the meeting panned out and what argument they got into, but the heiress of Torchlight Camp never expressed her desire to open the Barracks’ doors for him again. And while Thiết Đăng’s name still remains in the Sect’s member list, it was clear the day he brandished his sabre and declared himself a wanderer that Huyền Nghi was not a part of his life anymore. Well, that was what I assumed was his intention at the time. Strangely enough, several Huyền Nghi members have mentioned having seen him roaming their territories, accepting pleas for help that would otherwise be rejected by them. I myself had little difficulty seeking him out. It is clear to me that Thiết Đăng has committed to the life of a vigilante - bringing justice to those he sees as unfortunate and slaying foes he deems immoral, unshackled by the rules of the Society and the confinement of the law. Huỳnh Hỏa remarks that while she holds no grudge towards Thiết Đăng, this is a dangerous path he is heading down, and that should things take a turn for the worse, she would not hesitate to face him on the battlefield. After all, an overgrown sward is only a spark away from an inferno. |
