-ruins of val-ar-aion previously claimed by a nomadic harpy kingdom which contested the arrival of Queen Noc's company
-After the Hellkites were annihilated in a harpy ambush- the most ignominious defeat of Queen Noc's rule- and with the main front against draconic rivals limiting the commitment of forces, other methods had to be sought
-through their spies, the queen and her advisors learned of a schism within the Harpy kingdom
-as dragons are much-longer lived that harpies, they were able to nurture this schism over several generations until the conditions for a war of succession were ripe
-they then made their bid to support the weaker of the claimants and, alongside Harpy traitors, destroyed and drove out the larger part of the Harpy kingdom in a war of just twenty-one days.
-having ensured the weaker claimant's forces were not sufficient to offer resistance, Queen Noc's company were then able to swiftly seize the defensible acropolis and prepare for siege against their draconic rivals.
-with the real battle looming, the question of what to do with the surviving faction of Harpies remained, with many in favor of eliminating them in order to tie up loose ends.
-and yet: most unexpected petitioner stepped forward to champion them; Valthuriel, who had fought the most closely alongside the Harpies during their brief allegiance, had found his Charge in the claimant Prince
-Valth argued that, with enemies at the gates, the harpies could yet prove valuable allies
-sympathetic to the burden of a fellow Guardian, Queen Noc offered them a contract instead: eternal fealty to the crown, in exchange for protection against their exiled rivals who would no doubt seek revenge for their betrayal
-Valth remains the champion of the controversial Harpy faction within Val-ar-Aion to this day, binding himself to the Prince and granting his beloved charge a dragon's lifespan.
-when Valthuriel goes into battle, he is accompanied by an airborne legion of 150 harpies which serve as mounted archers and a vanguard against attack by rival harpies: the descendants of the harpies he fought alongside over 1000 years ago.
