Biography
Wren
The Cheerful
Wren is often amongst the first of the clan to meet new members. Cheerful and social, he enjoys spending time with others; It's a rare time indeed when Wren is not seen in the company of another member of the clan. While in part this is due to the way that he has a natural ease and merry manner, often taking the time to cheer up anyone that is feeling down, it is also due to they way that Wren is almost completely blind, only able to see the faintest of lights and shadows. According to Elderberry, the clan's main Healer, Wren's blindness is due to the crystaline gemstones that make up a large proportion of his wings and can be seen shining through the small cracks in the tougher stone-like skin that covers most of his body. While common in many Snappers, the growth of these natural crystals is typically halted before it reaches a Snappers eyes. In the case of Wren, it appears that for no reason that anyone can determine, this process of crystalisation never came to an end; with a thick layer of faceted crystal growing across his eyes in place of a cornea and sclera whilst he was in the egg, obscuring his vision and creating the impression that his eyes are two pieces of solid gemstone. Despite his blindness, Wren maintains his cheerful and energetic attitude, always up for a bit of exploration and adventure. He spends much of his time bringing a breath of fresh air to the sometimes dour personalities within the clan. In particular, he is very close friends with Kestrel; who he spends many hours with, Kestrel tracing the clan's sign language onto his hands as they update each other on the goings on of the clan, and with Thimble, who spends as much time as she can in his prescence, often telling him stories of her travels, or being a guide for him for when they set off together to make new ones. He is fascinated by different perfumes and incenses and the way that different dragon species can find the same scents either completely intoxicating or overwhelmingly overpowering. When he's not spending time with other members of the clan, he can be seen experimenting with different scents, trying to find something that will appeal to all the different members of the clan; ensuring that there is almost always a faint smell of burning incense within the walls of the main lair that he calls home. Wren paused in his organizing as he heard the steps approaching his stall, the vials of scent clinking together as he turned to face the direction of the noise. That was the sound of two legs and not four, but the tread was too heavy to be that of a longneck. A banescale perhaps? "Can I help you at all? I'm still setting up at the moment, but if you have any questions I'd be happy to help!" There was a rustling from the direction of Wren's incense sticks, like the dragon had leaned forward into the stall. The smell of jasmine briefly mingled with the hints of rich clay and lichen already in the air. Lichen? A shadow dragon then. Maybe one with an interest in pottery of some sort? A laugh then, warm, inviting, and above all familiar. "Have you forgotten already? I promised to tell you about my latest project the next time I was passing through Dragonhome." Wren felt a smile begin to spread across his face, thrilled. No matter how long it had been, listening to a friend tell their stories was always welcome. "Kaolin! It's been too long! Come, tell me everything. There's still time before the Colonnades get busy. Let us find a quiet corner and you can tell me all about it!" |
