Lore

. Dusk sat at his desk. His tiny forepaws glided over the pages of a ledger. His eyes followed the flow of numbers and finally stopped at the foot of the page. He fluttered his frills and reread the ledger. There was no mistake, the clan's economy was growing once again.

Dusk said, "I don't believe it."

His tiny claws tapped on the page and his small frame trembled from his excitement. His delight was interrupted by a sharp knock at his office door.

"Enter."

The door, fashioned from a dark and heavy wood, swung inward to reveal who knocked. Dusk's guest was Chrono, one of his advisors. Chrono was a dark blue Fae, garbed in rich azure fabrics and silver accents. His voice droned, "I must say that this must be the closest to happy that I've ever seen you."

Dusk stretched out his frills and lifted his head. He couldn't contain his excitement. "I was going over our clan's funds. Our coffers are actually filling up Chrono and we're seeing a population surge. Dragons actually want to come live here."

Chrono's frills fluttered to produce a sound akin to gentle laughter. "Perhaps now would be a good time for me to say I told you so."

Dusk laced his foreclaws together as he clasped his forepaws together. His wings fanned out then folded inward, repeating the motion as he ruminated over what he wanted to say next.

"Listen Chrono, I know that I shouldn't be counting my eggs before they hatch. Especially with Gabriel's reports that talk of rising crime rates."

Chrono rolled his shoulders. "The price of becoming a larger clan, I'm afraid. We do allow inter-dimensional travelers to pass through our clan, after all. All we can do is prepare to handle such situations and mitigate damages as much as possible. The successes of our clan are worth celebrating."

Dusk flicked his frills before he nodded his affirmation. "Thank you Chrono."

Chrono returned the nod. "Of course. Now for the fun part. How do you want to distribute the funds."

Dusk folded his frills and tucked his face into his forepaws. "If it isn't one thing, it is another. What are your suggestions, Chrono."

Chrono tilted his head. "I suggest that you focus on infrastructure. With the population surge, we're going to see more dragons needing housing and jobs. As good as Bruma's Inn is, she only has so much room in that building and she will start needing help. My thought is that we rebuild the barracks, that way we can give Gabriel the chance to build a law enforcement unit to help control the crime rates. It will also keep Bruma's inn open for travelers rather than housing our residents."

It was a good suggestion. Dusk knew there would need to be more projects though. There was enough funding and dragons available to move onto the next phase. Dusk said, "Chrono I think it is time that I move us onto the next phase. The scope of leading the clan is beginning to become too draining for one dragon. Long ago, this clan used to have a council that advised the King. I want to reinstate that council."

Chrono bowed his head. "I will begin making the preparations then."

Dusk nodded his head. "Thank you."

The Clan of Burning Fantasies

The Clan Leader

Background

fire_large.png

Dusk is the ruler of the Clan of Burning Fantasies. His parents left the clan to fight for the Flamecaller and thus left Dusk in the care of his grandmother Molta. He grew up under her close supervision, learning all that he could about what his duty would be once he was old enough to lead the clan. However he observed the struggles that his grandmother dealt with during his youth. Many dragons of the clan doubted the strength of his rule, or at least were too impatient and craved better structure, and swiftly left. By the time Dusk inherited the mantle of ruler, the clan was a shadow of its former glory. Buildings that were once full of life were falling apart, the forges that once raged and echoed with clanging metal were dark, and the few dragons that remained possessed an air of melancholy.

Dusk always possessed a fondness for his namesake, the sunsets that set the sky ablaze in a sea of color. Sometimes they did weigh on his mind though, making him wonder if he was to witness the fall of his clan. But at other times he was reminded of his dream. He loved sitting to watch the sunsets, he truly did. His dream was to one day share simple moments, gentle and quiet moments watching the sunset, with someone he loved. A romantic notion and one that he earnestly entertains.

As time went on, Dusk's hopes were nurtured by others. One was his half brother Aarush, a multi-gaze Pearlcatcher that could see possible futures, assured Dusk that he would find the love of his life in a far away place. The second assurance came in the form of a mysterious Fae named Chrono. Chrono was a traveler that possessed intriguing powers before finally joining Burning Fantasies. Dusk learned from Chrono that the clan was actually making a comeback thanks to Dusk's efforts. Finally there was a third assurance, when the bard Bruma'Aurora came to Burning Fantasies and agreed to set up her permanent residence in the form of a lively Inn. Her determination to create a thriving business, a warm hub that encouraged the clan to come together and share good food and company, was all the inspiration that Dusk needed to give his all.

While he does make mistakes, Dusk is eager to correct those mistakes and works tirelessly to help his clan. He can have moments of childishness but for the most part the clan regards those moments as endearing. For Dusk, the future is bright.

Poem

Hello, stranger. You appear to be cold. Here, come sit by the fire. Look into the flames. Do you see anything? No? Keep watching. Now what do you see?

I think I see... wings. It looks like the wings of a Fae dragon. But—that’s impossible! How—?

Oh, do not worry, stranger. It is just fire.
