Pompon was a prophecy. A couple of hundred years ago, a traveling oracle had stopped by Faithful Forests to alert them of a vision. The vision consisted of a flaming, pumpkin-colored Skydancer, and a garnering, fire-colored Skydancer-- both males, both born on Halloween. "They come to you needing guidance," he'd said. "They need each other, and you need them." And so, on that next Halloween, Pompon was born just seconds after Calabaza; different clans, different elements, and yet (though they didn't know it), fated to one another. They each arrived at Faithful Forests just a day apart. The prophecy seemed true-- except for one small factor: Pompon's sex. From a glance, one would assume that Pompon must rely on the universe for his success, being that so much of his life was so clearly fated. But this is far from the truth. Pompon struggled with himself; he struggled with his gender identity, his career, and the seemingly minimal probability that he really deserved Cala. Pompon knew he was male, and he knew he loved Calabaza, but felt forced to accord to the prophecy. It took a lot of soul-searching, but Pompon has finally fallen into a comfortable in-between in accepting "meant-to-be" and free will simultaneously. |
