Personality: Macaroon and Shortcake are a dynamic duo, and compliment one another well. Macaroon is the more worldly of the two, having seen and lived through a lot in his time. He understands pain, sorrow, grief, and the helpless frustration that often accompanies bad times. He is the quieter of the two, soft spoken and thoughtful. Warm and sweet in nature, he is always willing to offer a soft, fluffy shoulder to cry on. History: Macaroon and his best friend Shortcake are famous in all the lands of Sornieth as talented pastry artists. They can sculpt with sugar and fondant as if it were clay or stone, and their works of art are almost too pretty to eat. (Almost- the also smell heavenly, inviting the beholders to take that first bite to break the ice of artistic wonder.) The two are nomadic, never sticking around the same place for very long, so it is a matter of immense good luck- or having the treasure to track them down- to commission a designer cake from them. Their regular patrons, therefore, are almost exclusively the immense wealthy, adding to their legendary allure. Not just anybody, after all can have a Pretty in Pink, Partners in Pastry cake. Cake baking and decoration wasn't always a career for Macaroon (known as Mac to his friends). Before he pursued his passion with his best friend, the little bakery they co-owned was mostly just a hobby. Mac instead worked full time as a psychiatrist, giving counsel to those suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and more. He always kept something sweet in his office, wanting to offer his patients the relief, even momentary, of a piece of chocolate or a whip of meringue. Eventually, however, he found his own mental health wearing down. Taking the advice he often gave his patients - "take time every now and then to do something just for yourself"- he teamed up with his best friend Shortcake to enter a cake decorating contest. Though they didn't win it was a lot of fun, and at the end of the contest the finished pastries were donated to orphaned dragons in the area. Seeing the joy on the faces of the hatchlings buoyed Macaroon's spirits, and he got an idea. He still uses magic to have regular sessions with his patients, but Mac and Shortcake have long since taken to the skies of Sornieth. They take jobs from wealthy patrons to make expensive designer cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and more… and their test cakes, extras, and leftovers, Mac gives away for free to local dragons in need. It makes him happy to bring just a moment of sugar-sweet brightness into someone's life when they need it most. |
